- More Dining Locations Re-Open For Walt Disney World Hotels Guests, Plus Meal Kits Suspended
Restaurants have began to reopen today to guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels during Hurricane Ian. Plus, in a sign that hotel guests will not be asked to stay in their rooms, the meal kits that were available to hotel guests yesterday are no longer available. In an updated list of available food options, the list shows that there are more locations closed today, including several hotels that no longer have any operating restaurants. All restaurants are currently closed at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort, Disney's Port Orleans Riverside, and Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter. Plus, all hotel pool bars will be closed today. Here is the current full list of open and closed dining locations at Walt Disney World hotels. For specific hours at individual locations guests should check at the hotel. - Storm Ian: Walt Disney World Largely Spared From High Winds BUT Pounded By Torrential Rain
The National Weather Service located in Melbourne, Florida, has released a preliminary report this morning showing the highest wind gusts recorded from Hurricane Ian. While yesterday, September 28, forecasts had the major storm tearing a path through Walt Disney World, it appears that the resort has largely been spared from the seriously damaging winds that the area was expecting. The NWS report lists that a Magic Kingdom weather station within Walt Disney World recordiing a maximum wind gust of 45mph at 12:20am this morning, Thursday, September 29. By comparison a weather station at Orlando International Airport recorded a maximum wind gust of 67mph at 7:35am. Although wind speeds may not have been as high as anticipated, relentless rainfall has caused flash floods throughout The Walt Disney World area in Lake Buena Vista. Earlier this morning we reported flooding was causing problems at the Swan & Dolphin hotels. While wind may have been less severe than feared at Walt Disney World, it still caused damage, including damage shared by twitter user @GrainAndSpirit showing damage at Disney's Contemporary hotel on Bay Lake, with exterior damage visible on the main tower building where sections of exterior cladding has been torn off.

Hurricane Ian arrived overnight into Central Florida, and with the wrath of the storm happening under cover of darkness it is only now that we are beginning to get reports of damage at the area theme parks and resorts from guests staying at resort hotels. Damage is now being reported at Disney's Contemporary hotel on Bay Lake, with exterior damage visible on the main tower building where sections of exterior cladding has been torn off.. - Walt Disney World Releases Statement With An Update On Hurricane Ian
This morning Thursday, September 29, 2022, Walt Disney World has issued a brief statement with an update on Hurricane Ian. No mention was made regarding any damage to the Walt Disney World theme parks, and no indication was made when we might see the parks re-opening. They did however confirm that today, crews will be assessing the impact of the storm and clearing debris. The statement read: We are thinking of our neighbors across Florida. We will get through this together and will be there to help our cast members and community. As we keep safety in mind, our theme parks and other operating areas remain closed today while crews assess the impact of the storm and clear debris. Thank you to all of our cast members who continue to care for the thousands of guests currently staying at our Disney Resort hotels.
- Disney Springs WILL Remain Temporarily Closed Today Due To Tropical Storm Ian
As Tropical Storm Ian continues his fall vacation in Central Florida, Walt Disney World have announced that Disney Springs will not re-open today, September 29th, 2022. While Walt Disney World had previously announced that all four theme parks would be closed yesterday, and today, they had only said that Disney Springs would be closed yesterday, September 28. With Tropical Storm Ian's effects still being experienced today, the decision has been made to keep Disney Springs closed. No official decision has been made whether the Walt Disney World theme parks, or Disney Springs will re-open tomorrow, but they are all currently scheduled to reopen.
- Walt Disney World Extends Suspension Of New Hotel Reservations Until October 3rd
As Central Florida continues to experience the effects of Tropical Storm Ian including major flooding, Walt Disney World have once again extended the suspension on new resort hotel reservations. After first suspending new reservations until September 30th, yesterday Disney extended new resort hotel reservations until October 2nd, but once again Disney has pushed that back another day, with new reservations now not available until October 3rd, 2022.
- MCO Update: Major Flooding Has Closed Roads Around Orlando International Airport
Orlando International Airport has shared an update this morning, Thursday 29 September, giving an update on the airports status following the overnight arrival of Tropical Storm Ian. The airport have confirmed that commercial operations will not resume today with no scheduled flights happening. All roads leading into Orlando International Airport are closed due to flooding at this time. The roads involved include all major and secondary arteries including Jeff Fuqua Blvd and Heintzelman Blvd, and Bear Rd and Cargo Rd The airport staff will conduct a damage assessment of the entire facility complex to ensure it's safe to resume operations, with flights expected to resume sometime Friday, Thursday 30 September, pending the damage assessment. Travelers are advised to contact their airlines directly for information about their specific flights.
- Significant Storm Damage At Island's Of Adventure Jurassic River Adventure Building
As daybreak arrived here in Central Florida, first light has revealed that Hurricane Ian has decided to pay a visit to Universal Orlando Resort here in Orlando. Theme Park Stop has shared a photo on Facebook appearing to show significant storm damage to the Jurassic River Adventure ride building at Universals Islands Of Adventure. Paneling has been sheared off the side of the building, near the main drop to the popular water ride. Universal Orlando Resort has not commented on this reported damage as yet. We will keep you updated on this news story as we get more information.
- Tropical Storm Ian 8am Update: Major Central Florida Flooding & Damage At Universal Orlando
The once mighty Hurricane Ian is no more than a Tropical Storm now, but still he continues to try his best and ruin many a Florida vacation. Now that the daylight hours have arrived, we can breathe a sigh of relief that the main tourism corridor of Central Florida has escaped the absolute worst of this once monster storm that has caused so much destructive damage throughout other areas of this great state. We are heartbroken for everyone who has lost their lives, their homes, and more due to the devastating damage caused by Ian. Our thoughts and prayers with everyone who is suffering at this time. Personally we have been lucky, remarkably we still have power, our home is not damaged, and we are so very thankful and grateful to be here writing this update for you. Here in Central Florida the main news appears to be the unprecedented rain. Flooding is causing major problems throughout the area. Local law enforcement is urging people to stay indoors, the only people who should be on the roads are law enforcement and emergency workers clearing debris. A 13 mile stretch of the turnpike is flooded in Orange County due to flooding. The I-4 Express Lanes at Kirkman Road are also closed due to flooding. In Orlando flooding is causing serious problems, currently people are being rescued in the Kirkman area. Lake Eola is completely flooded over onto Robinson. In Kissimmee, people are being rescued from flooded houses, roads are closed due to waist deep waters that have trapped people in their cars. even local golf courses are under water. Seminole County is seeing unprecedented flooding for Altamonte Springs, Little Wekiva Riverwith river levels at 30.6 ft. At Walt Disney World minor flooding has been reported at resorts, although no information is available from the theme parks yet. A Flash Flood Warnings are currently in place for Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista UNTIL 9.30 AM. Thank you to Twitter user @JaiHawkFly for the video. On International Drive it appears the main tourist strip area is suffering from major flooding. Serious flooding is reported in the Universal Orlando area, although currently no information on damage is available from the theme park itself. the area around the Double Tree By Hilton near the entrance to Universal is suffering major flooding. Thank you to News 13 and Jeff Allen for the update. At Universal Orlando Resort, damage is reported at the Jurassic River Adventure building in Unviersal's Islands Of Adventure. It is much too early to speculate when the theme parks will re-open, keeping everyone safe today is the priority right now. More torrential rain is forecast for today, and with flash flood warnings in the area, its currently unknown when it will be safe for theme park management to asses the theme parks for any damage, and for clean up crews to clear any debris and ready the parks for re-opening. As the day goes on we will get a better picture on any issues with the theme parks, and whether they will re-open tomorrow as scheduled. - Hurricane Ian 5am Update: Flooding Reported At Walt Disney World & More
As Hurricane Ian continues his churn through Florida it has been a long night here in Orlando with not much sleep as the storms relentless rain and sustained wind continues to pound outside our windows. Hurricane Ian may only be a shadow of his former self, having been downgraded to a Tropical storm, but in the darkness of night, Ian has been an unwelcome visitor to Central Florida. Flood warnings and flash flood warnings are still in effect across Central Florida, here in Orange County, many homes have lost power, tree limbs are scattered across the roads, and there is reports of flooding due to the heavy rain. The area has already received a total rainfall of 8 to 12 inches with an additional 2 to 4 inches expected. At Walt Disney World where thousands of guests have been asked to stay in place throughout the night, flooding has been reported at the Riverea Resort, and at the Swan & Dolphin hotels. On the main tourist strip of International Drive, where many visitors, recovery crews, and storm evacuees hunker down in hotels, it appears that no major damage has been reported so far. In Kissimmee, police and fire crews announced at 3 am that they were no longer responding to calls as sustained winds have reached 45 mph. Flooding appears to be the main problem in the area. In Downtown Orlando street signs had blown over, and throughout the area tree limbs had given in to the storms constant pounding, while flooding has been an issue, with reports an ambulance was trapped in standing water on Silver Ct. Now as daybreak arrives, we will discover if Ian has played fair on his visit to Central Florida.
- Orange County Fire Rescue Locked & Loaded, Ready To Face Hurricane Ian
As Central Florida hunkers down to ride out Hurricane Ian, Orange County Fire Rescue have shared pictures that show they and neighbouring Fire Departments are well prepared for whatever the storm has to throw at Central Florida. The massive Orange County Convention Center on International Drive here in Orlando is being used to stage USAR Task Force 4 The assembled crews have specialized technicians trained in hazardous materials response, water rescues, & structural collapse. The huge task force is comprised of units from Orange County Fire Rescue, Seminole County Fire Department, Osceola County Fire Rescue, Lake County Fire Rescue, Reedy Creek Fire Department, and Kissimmee Fire Department. The task force at the Orange County Fire Department is only part of the huge efforts Orange County Fire Rescue are putting into being prepared for any eventuality caused by Hurricane Ian, OCFD have units staged throughout Orange County including Water Rescue Strike Teams staged at Orlando International Airport. - Hurricane Ian Update: Orange County Residents Urged To Shelter In Place From 9pm
As the weather continues to deteriorate in Central Florida due to the imminent arrival of Hurricane Ian, Orange County Government is urging everyone to shelter in place from 9pm as it is no longer safe to be outside. Winds are now gusting at 50 mph already, with reports of trees down in the area. “We’ve asked all of our residents to start the process of sheltering in place,” Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said at a 6 p.m. news conference. “You should not be out on the roadways at this time moving about the community.” “There’s no question that we’re now feeling the effects of this hurricane, and we haven’t seen the worst of it yet,” Demings said. Orange County covers Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and the 1-4 tourism corridor, with all hotel guests advised to shelter in hotel rooms from 9pm also. Orange County Sheriff's Office has posted on social media urging everyone to shelter in place: ATTENTION anyone in Orange County. Do NOT go outside. It's NOT SAFE. We're under a Hurricane WARNING & Tornado Watch, w/ 40-50 mph wind gusts already. County leaders urge everyone: SHELTER IN PLACE. OCSO say if you need to leave your home you should call 911 and they will help. Ian was a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph at 8 p.m., and its center was about 95 miles southwest of Orlando, the National Hurricane Center said. It was moving northeast. Orlando is under a hurricane warning, and the National Weather Service said conditions will deteriorate Wednesday night. “The threat of significant to catastrophic flooding” was expected for an area that includes metro Orlando, the weather agency said, and flooding can be especially dangerous at night. In addition to the wind and the storm surge, the area could get 10 to 15 inches of rain, it said.
