  • As Florida Governor continues war on Disney, North Carolina Senator invites Disney to move to NC

As Florida Govenor Ron DeSantis continues his one man war against Walt Disney World, North Carolina state senator Michael Garrett has seen an opportunity to attract Disney to North Carolina, and take a swipe at DeSantis at the same time. Garett has introduced Senate Bill 594, “Mickey’s Freedom Restoration Act,” which is inviting Disney to the Tar Heel State! The senator said he would “welcome The Walt Disney Company and all other businesses seeking refuge from the culture war madness currently gripping the great state of Florida.” and added that “North Carolina is a great place to do business.” and in an apparent swipe at DeSantis, Garrett added, “Politicians who put their state’s economy at risk to boost their own selfish political ambitions are a liability.” Whether this means the senator actually thinks Disney would shut up shop in Florida and move on up to North Carolina remains to be seen, and the likelihood of it happening are pretty much 0%. • A Universal Orlando Resort branded speciality Florida License Plate could be available soon!

A Universal Orlando Licence Plate could be available soon if Florida Senators can make it happen, and it's all to support Give Kids The World Vilage. The currently design for the Give Kids The World-branded specialty license plate is shown below, anyone with a valid Florida driver's license can purchase a voucher for the new plate for just $35, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Village. BUT, in order for these specialty license plate orders to be fulfilled, Give Kids The World will need to sell 3,000 vouchers by October 1, 2024, and so far only 108 vouchers have been sold. Only once the threshold has been reached, will the vouchers be turned into license plates, and so this is why Florida Senators have proposed that a new specialty Florida license plate benefiting Give Kids The World be designed as the current design is just not proving popular sadly, despite it being for a wonderful cause. It's believed that if the plate is rethemed to Universal Orlando Resort it has a much higher chance at meeting the 3000 minimum preorder threshold. In a proposed amendment, Florida’s Senate Committee on Fiscal Policy has recommended that the Give Kids The World specialty license plate be re-themed to feature artwork for Universal Orlando Resort, with the proceeds from the sales of the license plates still benefiting Give Kids The World Village. This proposed change to the licence plate design would hopefully have a better chance at meeting a minimum preorder threshold. Right now if you wish to support Give Kids The World and purchase a voucher for the license plate, click here for the details on the Give Kids The World Village Website. • Walt Disney World reveals expansion of affordable housing project with first units available 2026

In a counter strike to The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors who have said that they wan to exploring new zoning for the construction of affordable housing for Disney workers on Disney World property, Disney have now given us more details of their own affordable housing plans that they had already announced a year ago! Walt Disney World have revealed that the groundbreaking on a new affordable and attainable housing development is set to take place next year, with the first units anticipated to be completed in 2026. The development that will be located on land west of State Road 429, just a few miles away from the Magic Kingdom, near schools and shopping, including Flamingo Crossings Town Center. will offer affordable options for qualifying applicants within certain income levels. Not only have Disney announced that work is set to start on the project, they have revealed that the are increasing the size of the project from 1300 units to 1400 units. The Michaels Organization, a housing developer known for creating high-quality homes in communities in many states, including here in Florida will build, own and operate the property. Here is the full announcement from Disney: This time last year, we first told you about our plans at Walt Disney World to contribute nearly 80 acres of our land to create a new affordable and attainable housing development for our community. This type of land contribution is unique and is one of many ways we are making a lasting impact in Central Florida. We’ve been making more and more progress on this initiative every day, and now, we’re thrilled to share that groundbreaking on this development is targeted for next year, with the first units anticipated to be completed in 2026. We are also expanding our vision to now include approximately 1,400 total units – over 100 higher than we had initially announced. We hope to make a positive impact wherever we can in our community, so to be able to offer more units means even more Florida families will get access to attainable housing, in addition to creating new Florida jobs as part of the construction and operation. As we previously announced, The Michaels Organization, a nationally recognized developer, will build and operate the property, which would be just a few miles away from the Magic Kingdom, near schools and shopping, including Flamingo Crossings Town Center, which continues to open more great retail and dining spots. The development, which is planned to be privately financed, will be limited to applicants within a certain income range. Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle and our team met earlier this week with leaders from The Michaels Organization here in Florida, and we discussed how we hope this development inspires others in the community and across the country to support this important issue in innovative ways. While we continue to work closely with The Michaels Organization to make progress on this initiative, Disney has been on the front line, supporting important causes in our community. We recently joined Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, an organization that our cast members passionately support year-round through our Disney VoluntEARS program, for the grand opening of its newly renovated youth center, which was built with the help of a $100,000 Disney grant. And late last year, Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort announced significant donations to local community food banks to support families in need, totaling more than $300,000. Please know we will continue to share more details, including more information on how to apply for those who qualify, when we can. In the meantime, we will keep working diligently behind the scenes to bring this important initiative to life! Visit DisneyFlorida.com to learn more. • Governor's puppet board want to monetize land around Walt Disney World - Housing, Tolls, Prisons?

We told you earlier today how The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors fired Reedy Creek's Planning and Zoning Board members so they could appoint themselves, and at the same time they also passed their “superior authority” resolution, which is them basically ignoring the powers that Reedy Creek gave to Disney before the new board elbowed their way into power. Also at the meeting today, Martin Garcia, chair of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, said that in the future, they might consider acquiring more land under eminent domain, monetizing the district’s assets to pay off debt, banning COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates, and exploring new zoning for the construction of affordable housing for Disney workers on Disney World property. This move appears to be trying to win back public after claiming they might build a prison next to Walt Disney World, and of course building affordable housing is much more palatable than building a prison, although it has to be pointed out that Disney themselves have already announced plans for affordable housing!! The interesting take from the comments made by the Chair Martin Garcia is that they want to "monetize the district’s land assets", could this be a hint at the plans that DeSantis himself has already made public, that he could put toll roads around Walt Disney World? • More drama from DeSantis and his cronies as they fire Planning Board and assume Superior Authority

Another day brings yet more drama from Florida Govenor DeSantis and his band of cronies at The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors. In what is now being seen as a running joke around the world, played out daily in the media, DeSantis and his self appointed board appear to be making rules up as they go along in the governor's battle against Disney, who's crime was to offer a different opinion to the Governor, how dare they! The latest news today, Wednesday, April 19, is that the The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors have been busy with their "lets bring Disney down" agenda. First piece of business today was for the board of supervisors, whose members were all hand picked by DeSantis to take over Reedy Creek Improvement District, to unanimously vote to terminate the Planning and Zoning Board members and appoint themselves, of course as the local planning agency. This now makes the Board of Supervisors the final decision-making authority for the District with no right of appeal. This is what happens in dictatorships, and apparently now in Florida. The next major news is that The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors has passed their “superior authority” resolution, yes they have made this new piece of legislation up too. Resolution No. 639 amends article 6, chapter 6-90 and article 7, chapters 7-20 and 7-30 of the pre-existing RCID Land Development Regulations. These amendments ensure the new board has authority over the “reviewing, processing, evaluating, commenting on and approving, approving with conditions or denying applications for development orders throughout the District, including within the jurisdictional limits of City of Lake Buena Vista and the City of Bay Lake.” A second reading and public hearing for the resolution are set for April 26, 2023, although legal experts throughout the country say that the resolution passed today is worthless, and will not be effective in taking control from Disney. Plus, They also said that in the future, they might consider acquiring more land under eminent domain, monetizing the district’s assets to pay off debt, banning COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates, asserting the board's “superior authority” over the district and exploring new zoning for the construction of affordable housing for Disney workers on Disney World property, sounds much better than building a prison! We're sure there will be much more to come in this ongoing drama of the governor's own making.
