"Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song"
Record Store Day is an annual event to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store, conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently-owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008.
Today, Record Store Day is celebrated at independently-owned brick-and-mortar record stores around the world, a day that brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores around the world, and even includes a number of records that are pressed specifically for Record Store Day, and are only distributed to shops participating in the event.
This year's record Store Day is Saturday, April 22, and here in Orlando we thankfully have a great selection of record stores that are very much thriving, and thanks to the resurgence of vinyl, we can discover more and more music pressed on vinyl, exactly how it should be heard!
