As we begin to look forward to the holidays here in Orlando, a highlight for visitors and locals alike is the much loved ICE! which is returning to Gaylord Palms Resort from November 18, 2022 to January 1, 2023. Gaylord Palms Orlando is a one-of-a-kind, enchanting resort located in Kissimmee, only minutes away from the theme parks, and every holiday season the resort hosts ICE! ICE! is an iconic experience featuring ice sculptures from your favorite mean one, The Grinch carved from over two million pounds of ice. In addition to ice sculptures, enjoy the Snow Factory, a Grinch character breakfast, Christmas shop, holiday escape room, live stage shows and a breathtaking light show in the resort’s beautiful atrium. This year, the holiday event is making its grand return after a two-year absence due to the pandemic. The talented carvers that create this arctic artwork wonderland traveled more than 7,000 miles from their homes in Harbin, China. Harbin, also known as “Ice City,” as it’s home to the world’s largest annual ice and snow sculpting festival. The team of artisans number 30, and who are all hard at work creating the 20,000-square-foot, 9-degree attraction that's set to open on November 18. Right now, ice sculpture artists are carving huge blocks of ice into the Dr. Seuss story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Guests will see more than 10 scenes from Grinch story including statues of The Grinch, his canine sidekick Max and Cindy-Lou Who. Each artisan uses a series of tools including picks and chainsaws to carefully craft each Grinch-inspired scene within ICE! Carvers sculpt brightly colored ice, solid white ice and crystal-clear ice to create the attractions wonderfully intricate ice sculptures. Giant blocks of ice of almost every hue can be found inside Gaylord Palms Orlando ICE! attraction. ICE! opens November 18 and invites guests to experience larger-than-life scenes and sculptures carved from more than 6,700 massive blocks of ice in an environment as large as four pro basketball courts put together. With temperatures in the exhibit dipping to a chilly nine degrees Fahrenheit, guests will receive blue parkas to enjoy the experience. This year the resorts longtime holiday tradition, ICE! features your favorite scenes from the beloved story How The Grinch Stole Christmas!, brought to life in magnificent sculptures hand-carved from more than two million pounds of ice. Using more than 1,000 tons of ice, the classic Dr. Seuss story and animated special, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! will be brought to life by a team of 40 talented ice artisans who work approximately six weeks to create the nearly 20,000-square-foot, frozen attraction. Starting with more than 6,700 massive ice blocks, carvers will tally more than 12,000 man-hours, using skills passed down from generation to generation, to create the winter spectacle. This year, ICE! will feature more than 10 scenes from “How The Grinch Stole Christmas!” starring classic characters including The Grinch, his canine sidekick Max and Cindy-Lou Who. Ice carvings range in size from details as tiny as a coin, to soaring scenes measuring nearly 30 feet tall. The environment will be kept frozen in the tropical, Florida climate by a state-of-the-art chilling system that maintains the temperature at a frosty 9 degrees Fahrenheit. And while the 9-degree temperatures turn ICE! into one of the coldest spots in Florida, guests will be provided Gaylord Palms’ signature blue parkas to keep them warm and toasty while in the attraction. Colored ice (created by a chemist who mixes special food colorings to ensure sculptures maintain their bright colors the entire season), clear ice and LED lights are all used to create the display, as the frozen fun follows The Grinch’s journey from his mountaintop cave to Who-ville. The artisans from Harbin have created ICE! for Gaylord Hotels for many years, but haven’t been able to travel to the United States the past two holiday seasons because of international travel restrictions in place due to COVID-19. There’s Snow Much More! While ICE! is the signature attraction for the 2022 Christmas at Gaylord Palms celebration, there are plenty more festive events, attractions and dazzling decorations throughout the 64-acre resort. The entire resort transforms into a holiday wonderland with more than 3 million lights, elaborately themed Christmas trees all throughout the garden atrium and convention center, more than 20,000 ornaments and miles of garland. Journey of the Three Kings Guests experience The Journey of Los Tres Magos, a live stage production that honors the date Jesus was visited by the Three Wise Men. Tons of Fun at Interactive Attractions A Holiday Escape Guests test their winter weather wits inside the Naughty or Nice Escape Room. Yuletide trickster Jack Frost is back with his icy antics and has added new names to Santa’s infamous Naughty List But Jack has a deal to make – if guests can sneak into Santa’s office and solve a series of puzzles, their names will disappear from the Naughty List. Guests need to put on their holiday thinking caps on, solve the mystery, and then dash away, dash away, dash away all! Best in Snow A snowy play space awaits guests in the Snow Factory, along with ice tubing and snowball throwing. After climbing Snow Flow Mountain, guests hop in inner-tubes and speed down atop real ice. After the need for speed is satisfied, guests can head over to Snowball Build & Blast. Make a Date to Decorate In the Gingerbread Decorating Corner, guests let their Christmas creativity run wild while they adorn gingerbread treats. A Tree-mendous Holiday It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! In all, there will be more than 3 million holiday lights sparkling at Gaylord Palms. More than 100 Christmas trees – with more than 20,000 ornaments – will be on display, including a centerpiece, 60-foot-tall tree in the main atrium. Beautiful trees will also be suspended from the ceiling in the Everglades atrium and placed on floating islands in the Key West Lagoon. Walt Disney World have announced that during the week of Christmas, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks will replace Disney Enchantment nightly at Magic Kingdom Park. Disney Enchantment, will continue to be presented through December 21 on nights without Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks will be presented during the nights of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party through December 22. Then Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks will be presented during regular operating hours from December 23 through 29. New Year’s Eve fireworks will then be performed on December 30 and 31.

The Orlando Ballet will host multiple performances of a classic vampire tale this week at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Michael Pink’s Dracula will take over Downtown Orlando's Dr Phillips Center in multiple shows beginning this Thursday, October 20 through Sunday, October 23. The shows will take place at 7:30 p.m. each night, and at 2 p.m on Saturday and Sunday. Written in 1897 by Bram Stoker, Michael Pink directs and choreographs his rendition of the classic story, which stars John Abenanty and Trevor Stalcup. Pulse-quickening theatrics take center stage in this heart-pounding story of seduction and sacrifice. Orlando Ballet resurrects Michael Pink’s Dracula, the gothic horror story based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel. Dracula’s eerie world is brought to spine-tingling life in sweeping fashion with expressive movement, thrilling music, dramatic setting, lighting, and romantic costuming. This fan-favorite is a perfect Halloween treat. Tickets to the show start at $29 and can be purchased through the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts website.

Orlando Fringe has officially announced that it will open its incubator artspace in the former home of Mad Cow Theatre on Church Street, this coming January 2023. The space at 54 W. Church Street will be used to develop burgeoning talent as well as stage exciting theatrical productions. “We’ve built the programming for this space by listening to the needs of the community,” Orlando Fringe Executive Director Alauna Friskics from Orlando Fringe shared in a statement. “We took those suggestions and have created what we hope will be a unique theatrical experience for artists and audiences... There are thousands of ideas on the table, so we have lots of things to try." The new space will officially open on January 11 with a grand opening bash celebrating the new hub of outsider theater. This event is free and open to the public in the Plaza on Church Street to enjoy a dance party, and then be one of the first to tour the new Fringe ArtSpace! Fringe hopes to use the space's two theaters for a mix of community rehearsal space, their own productions and exciting work from touring companies. Fringe has been asked by the City of Orlando to activate a 9,100 sq. ft. performing arts space at 54 W Church St. in downtown Orlando. The space will now be called Fringe ArtSpace and be focused on building a dynamic, inspiring community of artists and arts lovers with the purpose of providing artists a safe environment to create, experiment, collaborate, and showcase their creations. The type of programming in the space will be a blend of the following: Full theatrical runs with a commitment to a transparent application process that promotes diversity and inclusion. An accelerator program that fosters and mentors emerging local arts groups Touring shows that set us as a destination. Education programming that invests in and expands on Fringe’s unique educational experiences for artists and patrons of all ages. Programming as part of the Orlando Fringe Festival and Winter Mini-Fest. The community will have access to rehearsal and performance space. Activation of the plaza to help integrate arts into the downtown atmosphere.

Earlier today, Wednesday, October 19, Walt Disney World Resort finally announced that Fantastic! was returning to Disney's Hollywood Studio on November 3rd. As the date was revealed, it was no surprise that Disney World Annual Passholders rushed to make Disney Park Pass reservations for Hollywood Studios for that day. The result is that, Hollywood Studios park passes are no longer available for Annual Passholders on November 3rd. Of course, Passholders could always park hop over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to catch the long awaited return performance of Fantasmic, unless Disney decides to restrict park hopping for the 3rd of November...

It's time to lace up up running shoes and get into training for the upcoming runDisney races coming to Walt Disney World. runDisney have today, Wednesday October 19, released the dates for their 2023-24 events at Walt Disney World. The 2023 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend will be held November 2-5, 2023. The event coincides with the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend 2024 is scheduled for January 3-7, 2024. Races during the weekend typically include a 10K, 5K, Marathon, and Half Marathon. February 22-25, 2024 will have running royalty during Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. In 2023, in addition to a Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K run, there will also be a Princess Yoga session in the Magic Kingdom. Finally, runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend is set for April 18-21, 2024. The theme for this event changes annually. 2023’s event features a Pixar theme, and registration is still open for the Disney Pixar Toy Story 10 Miler.

SeaWorld Orlando is transitioning from mainly a marine park and aquarium into a roller coaster park. In the future the dolphin, sea lion, and orca shows will be a thing of the past, their massive stadiums replaced with the latest thrill rides. Earlier this year, SeaWorld Orlando began marketing itself as the Coaster Capital of Orlando, with a list of 6 coasters that includes the kiddie coaster, Super Grover's Box Car Derby. Now with the announcement that Pipeline, a brand new Surf Coaster will open within the park in the spring of 2023, SeaWorld Orlando is forging ahead with its plan for coaster domination here in Orlando. However once Pipeline - The Surf Coaster opens, it will still leave the Orlando park 3 coasters short of its sister park, Busch Gardens, only a day trip away in Tampa, which currently has 10 coasters including the impressive Iron Gwazi, hence why SeaWorld can only claim to be the coaster capital of Orlando, and not Florida! But, even in Orlando its not top of the list, with Universal Orlando boasting 10 coasters between Islands Of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, and that's not including the under construction coasters in Universal's new Epic Universe theme park due to open in 2025. Epic Universe will include at least 4 coaster when it opens including Donkey Kong Mine Cart, How to Train Your Dragon, a duelling Coaster with no known theme yet, and a rumoured Universal Monsters Coaster believed to be themed to The Wolfman. Oh and how many coaster does Walt Disney World have? Well, they are already in seventh heaven with 7 coasters already within its parks, although when Disney does eventually decide to open the under construction Tron, it will take Disney's coaster count to 8, leaving the self proclaimed Coaster Capital of Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando with the least amount of coasters in Orlando! Disney has released a new video today, including a little sneak peek at Roundup Rodeo BBQ coming soon to Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios. In the video there is a segment with Bobby Rivera Otero, Chef de Cuisine Concept Development, where he shows some of the food and table-setting concepts that we can expect when the restaurant opens later this year including bone china plates that are designed to look like a disposable paper plates!
