  • Disney Launch 'Destination Gatherings' Merging 3 Brands Including Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings

Disney have shared news that they are 'bringing together a collection of Disney experiences for groups under a new brand to help guests gather again in meaningful ways.' The new brand name is Disney Destination Gatherings, a collection of three Disney businesses that includes Disney Meetings & Events, Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons, and Disney Imagination Campus. All three have operated under their own brands in the past, but it appears that Disney are merging the three brands together under this new single brand aimed at increasing group sales. Disney announced today, October 5, 2022, that the new brand, Disney Destination Gatherings 'brings together three different group-travel experiences specifically to meet the needs of those who plan meetings, social events, weddings and student-group travel.' It's too early to say if this apparent merger will result in a loss of jobs, or what the implications are for the three individual brands as they are brought together, but any merger results in a consolidation, and it will be interesting to see what happens as Disney move forward with this move. Here we have listed the three individual brands, which will now merge into one. Disney Meetings & Events Disney Meetings & Events organise conferences, association meetings, incentive programs, social events and corporate meetings held at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California, and Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, and aboard Disney Cruise Line ships. Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons For three decades, Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons have planned engagements, weddings, honeymoons, and vow renewals at Walt Disney World Resort; Disneyland Resort; Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa; or aboard Disney Cruise Line ships. Disney Imagination Campus Disney Imagination Campus offers workshops for students, inspiring them in the topics of leadership and innovation, arts and humanities, science and technology and performing arts. Workshops offered at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts include immersive hands-on learning so students from elementary through high school and college can build their skill sets and prepare for life’s adventures. With Disney Destination Gatherings, Disney say they hope to bring people together again with unforgettable experiences created by a brand they can trust. Is this the end of the 3 original brand names? Possibly, with the video that Disney have released with information on the 'merger.'

  • PLAY! Pavilion At EPCOT, Is It Cancelled, Paused Or Has Disney Pressed Play On The Project?

Does anyone remember that we were promised a brand new and exciting pavilion at EPCOT way back in 2019! The pavilion should have been open right now, it was set to open last year, as a new headliner attraction celebrating Walt Disney Word's 50th Anniversary in 2022. At the announcement, Imagineer Zach Riddley said “This innovative, new pavilion is beyond anything we’ve ever created and is completely unique to EPCOT. Built on the power of play, it introduces an immersive and interactive ‘city’ where you can explore, create, and interact with some of your favorite Disney characters. This is an experience worthy of our bold vision for EPCOT – and another signature element of our transformation.” Sounds good, too good to be true perhaps, and yes the awesome PLAY! Pavilion has since been quietly paused, scaled back, cancelled, or well... nobody seems to know, we don't even think that Disney know either, perhaps they have just forgotten about it, well it is hard to see that bright gold pavilion lurking in the corner of EPCOT hidden behind the massive Guardians Of The Galaxy building, housing a brand new shiny ride: that at least Disney delivered on that project! Well, now it seems that all is not lost for the PLAY! Pavilion as the pavilion is actually listed on the shiny new EPCOT40 commemorative map given out to celebrate EPCOT's 40th Anniversary on October 1! A close inspection at the World Discovery area of the park map reveals a tiny little dot above the former Wonders of Life Pavilion proclaims “Future Home of PLAY!,” This would indicate that the project may still happen. It could be heavily scaled back as previously rumored, but at least it appears that Disney intends to actually open PLAY! Perhaps sometime after Tron opens....

  • EPCOT Fans Everywhere, Mark Your Calendars For November 16th!

This past weekend, EPCOT at Walt Disney World celebrated its 40th anniversary. Opened on the 1st of October 1982, EPCOT Center (as it was originally called), was the most revolutionary theme park of all time, and has evolved more than any other Disney theme park, and with so much changed from when it first opened, there is so many of us who look back with nostalgia and fondness for the EPCOT that was. And now we can look forward to looking back at the history of the park some more, as it's been announced that EPCOT is going to be the focus of the Legends Panel at this year’s International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo in the Orange County Convention Center here in Orlando on November 16. Most excitingly, the panel will look at the past, present, and future of the park. Who knows, we might get some opening dates for upcoming attractions, and maybe we’ll learn about new projects that could be coming to the park too! Could we discover if the long rumoured but never announced addition of Brazil to World Showcase will ever happen? In past plans for the park the new country should have been opening this year!! Also. could we get a glimmer of hope that the already announced Cherry Tree Land neighborhood that is coming to the UK pavilion with a Mary Poppins attraction may actually be moving forward after being put on hold? More realistic, we could possibly get an opening date for the currently under construction Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana attraction, or more details on dreamers Point, which is due to open next year. The panel, will be hosted by the legendary Bob Rogers, founder and chairman of BRC Imagination Arts, and who has long been involved with EPCOT, having wrote and produced the original Impressions de France at the park’s France pavilion. He will be joined by four exciting guests, who have all been involved with the park and its development at one time or another. The panelists are Bob Weis, Global Ambassador for Walt Disney Imagineering; Jodi McLaughlin, Executive Portfolio Producer, Walt Disney Imagineering; Kartika Rodriquez, vice president of EPCOT; and Rick Rothschild, founder and chief creative officer of Far Out! Creative Direction. The IAAPA Expo returns to the Orange County Convention Center on Nov. 14, with the conference running through Nov. 17 and the trade show running through Nov. 18. Get details here on the IAAPA website.
