  • New Orlando International Airport Terminal Opening This Summer

It's time to get excited as the brand new Terminal C, the soon-to-be completed South terminal at Orlando International Airport, is nearing completion! MCO have given everyone a sneak peek at just what's inside the brand new terminal, where passengers will board planes across 15 gates. The new terminal is very impressive, with it's signature glass ceiling, with Orlando's bright sunshine pouring in everywhere. New airport CEO Kevin Thibault said Terminal C will deliver “beyond” the “Orlando experience.” “International arrivals are going to come up through these different corridors and they can see the sunshine when they come out here and really know that they’re in the Sunshine State,” Thibault said. “They’re going to get the whole Orlando experience right away.” The $2.8 billion terminal will rely heavily on the latest technology. A giant interactive LED wall will help pass the time while automated screening will save time. At the TSA checkpoint, the baggage bins will always be moving, connected by a continuous conveyor belt to avoid bin pileups. The 15 new gates will be equipped with boarding pass readers and even facial recognition to speed up boarding. Every single piece of checked luggage will be shuttled in its own yellow bin, tagged with a tracker so passengers can drop off their luggage early and airlines can tell them exactly where their bag is at any moment. Baggage claim will be at the top of the terminal, not the bottom, right after getting off the plane so passengers can grab their luggage and go. The entire terminal will be connected with a bridge to the new Intermodal facility housing Brightline trains to South Florida. “We’re leveraging that technology to streamline the experience at least when they’re here in our terminal,” Thibault said. The old North terminal was built to handle only 24 million passengers per year and has been stretched to accommodate 50 million, according to Thibault. MCO is the busiest airport in Florida and an industry trade group just named it the 7th busiest in the world. Terminal C will handle up to 12 million passengers per year when it opens. As part of Phase 1 completion, an additional four gates will be added to the existing 15. Rental cars, however, will not be available at Terminal C. Passengers will be bussed directly to the rental car counters at the North terminal or can take the tram. Right now some 1,500 workers are on site daily to finish Terminal C by “the summer.” with no exact opening date known at this time.

  • Culinary Cast Create Eggs-quisite Easter Displays At Walt Disney World

Spring has arrived at Walt Disney World, and the Easter egg display tradition at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has made its triumphant return, much to the delight of guests and cast! For over two decades, the culinary cast have been creating these chocolate egg-shaped masterpieces, which display their creative talents and meticulous attention to detail with each and every egg-cellent creation. “This Easter egg was something very special for me to create in honor of my family, especially my nanny who is from Colombia,” Yadira Camacho, pastry cook, said. “And being able to share this amazing story through chocolate with our guests was something I’ll never forget.” From beloved Disney characters and movies to attractions and more, Disney cast created sketches, gathered materials, and helped each other plan for weeks before the display was unveiled. Each cast member developed their own ways of deliciously depicting some of our favorite Disney stories. “I chose ‘Luca’ as the theme of my egg because I felt very connected to the story,” Juan Jimenez Abreu, chef assistant, said. “I’m an immigrant and came here from Venezuela five years ago. These characters were exploring a new community and discovering themselves and I really related to that; I wanted our guests to see my egg and feel the emotion I felt when watching the characters grow throughout the movie.” In addition to being very personal to our cast, these eggs display their skills with special hand-crafted techniques like chocolate sculpting, cocoa butter painting and intricate edible decorating. Where else but Disney do you get to show off your talents and create such stunning edible artwork that delivers magical experiences to our guests visiting from around the world? By far the largest egg this year is the Cinderella royal stagecoach. Our cast created this egg in honor of the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration and the magnificent EARidescent transformation of Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom Park. “Cinderella is a childhood favorite of mine,” Fabiola Vidal, chef assistant, said. “For this egg, I took inspiration from several of Cinderella’s stagecoaches across property to create this large-scale chocolate version, even adding edible gold paint and a special 50th Anniversary celebration license plate worthy of a princess.” Want to eggs-plore more of Walt Disney World Resort during the Easter holiday? The hunt is on, hop on over to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort lobbies to check out their cast Easter egg displays through April 18 as well as the fourth floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort for their cast Easter egg display through April 20. If the artistry of eggs inspires you, perhaps you are ready to take the next step in your culinary career? Discover a variety of culinary opportunities available to join our team here at Disney!
