Orange County Fire Rescue released drone footage showing crews rescuing riders from The Wheel at ICON Park after the ride lost power on New Year’s Eve.

Today, Tuesday, January 3, 2023, Orange County Fire Rescue released drone footage showing the dramatic rescue of 62 people after The Wheel at ICON Park in Orlando lost power late on New Year's Eve, trapping riders inside the attractions pods high above International Drive.
In the breathtaking Orange County Fire Rescue footage, fire crews are seen having to climb the 400-foot tall wheel high above I-Drive in the darkness of night to reach the people trapped inside the rides pods.
The firefighters were planning to set up a zipline-type system to send passengers safely to the ground but they didn’t need it.
Specially trained technical rescue teams from Orange County Fire Rescue were able to manually rotate the ride to evacuate everyone from the pods, with a total of 62 riders from more than 20 pods rescued, thankfully with no injuries were reported.

The footage also shows the huge emergency service response to the incident, with dozens of fire trucks, ambulances, and law enforcement vehicles around The Wheel.
It is still not known what caused the power outage, with ICON Park only saying that the attraction will be closed for several days for maintenance and inspections.
An official statement from ICON Park, it said, "The attraction will be reviewed by Florida state ride inspectors before reopening."
