A huge global IT outage has grounded flights, hit banks, hospitals and businesses around the world, including here in Central Florida at Orlando International Airport.

1pm Update:

Orlando International Airport has issued an update to passengers.


"Airlines affected by today's global IT disruption are working hard to resume normal operations and accommodate travelers. Delays/cancellations may continue, and we kindly ask all travelers to continue contacting their airlines for the latest updates. Thank you."


11am Update:

Orlando International Airport continue to recommend that travelers check with their airlines for the latest flight information and to allow extra time for check-in and baggage processing.


The FAA say that the are continuing to work closely with airlines as they work to resume normal operations. Ground stops and delays will be intermittent at various airports as the airlines work through residual technology issues.


Like MCO, the FAA recommend that travelers contact the airlines for more information.

A major IT outage is hitting industries across the world with airlines, banks, shops and broadcasters affected.


Major U.S. airlines have grounded flights and there are global delays. with United, American, Allegiant, and Delta ordering a "global ground stop," which is affecting airports throughout the country including here in Central Florida.


Orlando International Airport has issued a statement warning passengers of flight delays and cancellations, urging passengers to contact their airline directly.


It is understood that multiple flights have been grounded at MCO.


Cyber security company CrowdStrike has admitted to being responsible for the error that hit Microsoft operating systems and said a 'fix has been deployed'. The firm said it was caused by a 'defect found in a single content update' and insisted the issue 'was not a security incident or cyberattack'. 



As the fix from CrownStrike begins to address the IT issue, American Airlines, are now saying it has been able to safely re-establish its operations, issuing the following statement on social media.


"Earlier this morning, a technical issue with a vendor impacted multiple carriers, including American. As of 5:00 a.m. ET, we have been able to safely re-establish our operation. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."


United Airplines say that they are working to restore their systems, with some flights resuming, but warn that customers traveling today may experience delays.
