Don't Be A Turkey This Thanksgiving! AAA Activate Tow To Go For Impaired Drivers

As we head into Thanksgiving week, millions of motorists are hitting the roads, with many travelling to be with family and loved ones, while others are heading on vacations for the holidays, and there is many who are celebrating the holidays with a drink or two.

This is where the AAA step in, by offering an option to those who may need a ride if they have one too many to drink.

AAA is once again activating its Tow to Go program for Thanksgiving weekend, and the service is even available for non-members in order to avoid impaired driving.

The program kicks off 6 pm. Wednesday, November 23 and runs all the way through 6 am on Monday, November 28, 2022.

AAA is stresses that it should only be used as a last resort, with the service only available to one person and their vehicle.

A tow truck will take the impaired driver home or to a safe location, but it must be within a 10-mile radius.

According to AAA, Tow to Go aims to remove impaired drivers from roads and get people home safely on nights when impaired driving may be more likely.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that between 2016 and 2020, over 800 people died in crashes involving a drunk driver during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

AAA has offered Tow to Go during major holidays for almost 25 years. During that time, they removed more than 25,000 impaired drivers from the road.

Appointments cannot be scheduled in advance to use Tow to Go. It is designed as a safety net for those that did not plan ahead. Always choose a designated driver before celebrating.

The Tow to Go program operates here in Orlando and throughout Florida, and in addition offers service in Georgia (excluding Savannah), Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Denver, Colorado, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Fort Wayne/South Bend, Indiana.
