- Don The Beachcomber restaurant set to make 2024 Central Florida debut near Walt Disney World
A brand new tiki bar and restaurant experience is coming to Central Florida! After the Don the Beachcomber brand collapsed, the brand name was acquired back in 2021 by 23 Restaurant Services, a Tampa based hospitality company. 23 Restaurant Services is also the parent company of Ford’s Garage and Yeoman’s Cask & Lion. 23 Restaurant Services are now at the beginning of an exciting journey that will see them roll out a chain of new Tiki themed restaurants featuring the Don the Beachcomber branding, across the Southeastern United States over the next several years. The company has ambitious plans to create between 10 to 15 Don the Beachcomber restaurants, including two Don the Beachcomber restaurants and bars under development in Central Florida, one in Brevard County and another in Orlando, close to Walt Disney World. The new concept will be incorporated into 23 Restaurant Service's popular Tiki Docks concept that can currently be found in Riverview and St. Pete, with a third location on the way to Madeira Beach. Each of the new restaurants will feature the eccentric, Polynesian-inspired design and flamboyant, rum-based drinks that have become synonymous with Don the Beachcomber locations for more than 90 years,. The company’s president, Marc Brown, said “Don the Beachcomber is the most iconic brand in Tiki history, so it’s impossible to overstate how excited we are about what lies ahead,” Brown said. “We look forward to leveraging our expertise in management and operational excellence to reintroduce the world to the legend that is Don the Beachcomber.” The first of the new combined restaurants scheduled to open appears to be the one planned for Viera, a master-planned community on the east coast in Brevard County, midway between Cocoa Beach and Melbourne. The second restaurant, a new waterfront concept will be in the Orlando area, near Walt Disney World in Horizon West. The location will be within Hamlin, along the shore of Lake Hancock. The restaurant will be more than 8,700 square feet for the restaurant and 3,700 square feet for an outdoor covered patio along the lake with total capacity for at least 300. The outdoor covered patio will have views of the fireworks high in the sky above Walt Disney World. You can find more details on the Hamlin website. - New Orlando mural by Allison Dayka showcases the effects of climate change
Orlando now has a new and very colorful mural on Robinson Street, to add to its growing collection of public artworks. In its effort to create awareness about climate change, VoLo Foundation, has unveiled a magnificent new mural painting in Orlando by Allison Dayka, a renowned TIMEÔ pieces artist. The mural painting, which covers an entire wall of a building in the heart of downtown Orlando, features a depiction of “Future”, a bear that lives in a world transformed by climate change. Through vibrant colors, Dayka’s artwork seeks to inspire consciousness regarding the urgency of protecting our planet from the devastating effects of climate change. “We are thrilled to have commissioned Allison Dayka to create this incredible mural painting,” said Thais Lopez Vogel, co-founder of VoLo Foundation “Her work is not only visually stunning, but also deeply meaningful. The state of Florida ranked as the most vulnerable region outside of China when it comes to climate-vulnerable regions in the world, so it is imperative to convey a powerful message now about the need to take action to address the pressing environmental challenges we face.” Lopez Vogel went on to say “It is not a red or blue issue, it is a green issue.” Dayka expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the Foundation’s mission. “I believe that art can be a powerful tool for inspiring positive change,” she said. Angie and René Berio, owners of the building where the mural is displayed commented “We feel honored to be able to offer the community a small window to such an important matter as climate control. This is not only a community problem but worldwide, and if we don’t work together to fix it, there will not be much left for our children and coming generations.” The unveiling of the mural painting was attended by VoLo Foundation leaders, local officials, environmental activists, and members of the press, who expressed their appreciation for the foundation’s efforts to promote environmental consciousness.
