The City of Oviedo celebrate improvements to Shane Kelly Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony tonight

Oviedo Recreation and Parks will celebrate the unveiling of the Shane Kelly Park improvements tonight, Thursday, April 20, 2023, by hosting a ribbon cutting at the new equipment site at 5.30 pm.

The ribbon cutting will unveil the new outdoor fitness equipment that was designed around the pond at the back of the park which is located at 1555 County Road 426 Oviedo.

This improvement was part of the Recreation and Parks Master Plan. In January 2022, the City Council adopted a resolution approving a Recreation Trails Program grant agreement with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

“These improvements will bring more outdoor activities for our residents, allowing them to enjoy the workout stations in a quiet, scenic area of Oviedo,” said Recreation and Parks Manager Paul Belden. “We are proud the grant could make this happen at a park that is known for sports activities like soccer and flag football.”

The funding that was approved and matched with a grant allowed for the design and installation of new benches, trash receptacles, and state-of-the-art exercise stations that are also ADA-accessible.

The grant also allowed for the design and construction of an eight-foot-wide hard-surface trail and a 20-by-20-foot shade structure over one of the exercise stations. The exercise equipment is free to use and open to the public!
