- Orlando International Airport named Overall Winner at the Routes Americas 2026 Awards
MCO has been named Overall Winner and Airport with Over 20 Million Passengers at the Routes Americas 2026 Awards in Rio de Janeiro - Awards voted for by airlines. Orlando International Airport (MCO) captured the top honor at the Routes Americas 2026 Awards, becoming the Overall Winner for the first time in the airport’s history. MCO was also honored once again as the top airport in the Over 20 Million Passengers category. These recognitions for air service development are especially meaningful because the Routes Awards are determined by airline votes, reflecting the confidence and respect MCO has earned from its industry partners. MCO leaders were on hand as the honors were announced during the regional Routes Americas event in Rio de Janeiro. The awards highlight MCO’s continued commitment to air service development, collaborative partnerships, and strategic growth that benefit both travelers and airlines that service Central Florida. “It is an honor, and a reflection of our commitment to global air service development, to receive this esteemed award at Routes Americas,” said Lance Lyttle, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA), which manages and operates Orlando International Airport (MCO). “By collaborating with our tourism partners and other key stakeholders, we are able to launch new routes, strengthen economies and connect people, cultures, and possibilities.” The annual regional Routes Americas conference serves as a vital opportunity for airline decision-makers to meet with airport leaders to plan future air service for the region. MCO’s achievements come on the heels of a year marked by record-setting growth. The airport welcomed 57.7 million passengers in 2025, surpassing 2019 levels by 14%. Last year, MCO added 45 new and expanded routes, including international service to Hamilton (Canada), Lima (Peru), Paris (France), Munich (Germany), and Madrid (Spain). With a network that reaches more than 170 nonstop destinations around the world, MCO is making significant strides already in 2026. On February 23, MCO became the first airport in the state to host a passenger charter service between Florida and the Asia Pacific region, with ZIPAIR’s inaugural service to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT). Leadership from both MCO and ZIPAIR anticipate the initial charter offering will lay a foundation for additional opportunities between these two destinations. Later this year, TAP Air Portugal is planning to introduce new nonstop service between Orlando and Lisbon in October, pending government approval. Catch the latest shows at Kia Center, House of Blues, The Plaza Live, Hard Rock Live, Addition Financial Arena, Benchmark International Arena, Yuengling Center , and more. One of the founding fathers of synth pop, Gary Numan has influenced countless artists with his constantly evolving form of dystopian electronic rock music since the late 1970s. Establishing a lonely, android-like persona, he rose to fame leading , a pioneering new wave band whose second album, 1979's Replicas, became the first of Numan's three consecutive gold-selling, chart-topping full-lengths in the U.K. The same year's The Pleasure Principle, his first solo effort, included the perennial favorite "Cars," which remains his biggest worldwide hit. He continued refining his sound, incorporating elements of jazz and funk into more sophisticated efforts like 1982's I, Assassin, and remained a consistent presence in the U.K. charts throughout the following decades. His impact continued to make itself felt; his dark, paranoid vision, theatrically icy alien persona, and clinical, robotic sound were echoed strongly in the work of many goth rock and (especially) industrial artists to come. His own work took a turn towards industrial and darkwave with releases like 1994's Sacrifice and 2000's Pure, and the release of a tribute album, in addition to numerous dance artists sampling or reworking his past hits, helped revive his popularity. Since 2018, the quintet—MIYEON, MINNIE, SOYEON, YUQI, and SHUHUA—haven’t just challenged expectations; they’ve changed the game entirely. They set a precedent by personally helming their music and creative, evolving as a unit over seven years together, selling out arenas, and breaking records. It’s why they’ve consistently expanded their influence and attracted a devout global fanbase of millions whom they’ve affectionately dubbed, “Neverland.” In 2018, they exploded as an international phenomenon with breakthrough single “LATATA.” Delivering mini-albums and EPs at a breathless pace, their expansive catalog has notched multiple #1 debuts in Korea in addition to seven Top 10 debuts on the Billboard World Albums Chart, vaulting to #1 with I Feel [2023]. - LGBTQ+ Space, Heatwave to close after less than a year in Orlando's Parramore District
Heatwave, a multi-function LGBTQ+ space offering dining, coffee and nightlife has announed it's closure this weekend A new "multi-function LGBTQ+ space" opened in the former home of Stonewall Bar Orlando at 741 W Church St in the Parramore Neighborhood in August last year. The building which had been sitting vacant for almost three years since Stonewall closed on New Year’s Eve, 2021 , found a new lease of life with K evin Varanai and Andrea Dunn transforming the former nightclub into three distinct sections within the property, housing a café, tapas-style restaurant, and entertainment lounge. But now less than a year after opening, Heatwave has announced that it will close forever this weekend. O wners Kevin and Andrea Dunn shared the sad news on social media, announcing that the venue’s final day will be Sunday, March 8, inviting everyone to enjoy one last weekend at Heatwave before the doors close. They added that the venue never had a grand opening so they are making this last weekend a grand closing party! The latest bar, club and nightlife news from Orlando and throughout Central Florida. To help open the new venue, K evin and Andrea received financial support via the Orlando Community Redevelopment Agency, which awarded a grant worth over $130,000 to help with building improvements, and rent assistance. K evin and Andrea say that running Heatwave has been one of the most exciting things the’ve ever done. They wanted to create a place where queer and like-minded people could gather, connect, perform, celebrate, and build community together. Sadly for K evin and Andrea the financial realities of operating the venue has been tougher than they had hoped, deciding it was time to close the venue. Here is the statement in full from Kevin and Andrea: "Last call! We never got to have the grand opening so we figured we’d go out with a grand closing! Running a space like Heatwave has been one of the most exciting (and hardest) things we’ve ever done. Our vision was to create an elevated place where queer and like-minded people could gather, connect, perform, celebrate, and build community together. We deserve nice things too! While the love for the space has been real, the financial realities of operating this large of a venue has been tougher than we hoped, especially after the countless roadblocks we’ve faced getting open. We’ve had a lot of difficult conversations, but it’s time to close our doors. This isn’t the ending we imagined, but we’re incredibly proud of what was created here and deeply grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life. Before we go, we want one last weekend to celebrate it all. All our events this weekend will still go as planned, so we hope to see you there! Our last day will be this Sunday, 3/8. If Heatwave meant something to you, come say goodbye and tip your staff one last time! We love you and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Kevin + Andrea."
