Gideon’s Bakehouse has two locations, the original bakery at East End Market, 3201 Corrine Dr, Orlando, and the bakeries newest location at Disney Springs. Things To know Before Visiting Gideon’s At Disney Springs! Gideon’s Bakehouse is a popular single-owner small business based in Orlando that has gained international attention when it opened it's location at Disney Springs. It can get pretty crazy at the Disney Springs store with people waiting for hours to get their hands on a prized Gideon's near half pound cookie! To help you get enjoy lots of yummy Gideon's goodness, the bakery have shared some helpful information based on an average day to set an expectation and help you plan. • The bakery opens at 10 am, but the line typically begins to form at 9 am, when the parking garage opens. • Once the bakery opens, when the line gets too long, they switch to a Virtual Queue. This allows you to go anywhere while waiting for a return text. On weekdays the Virtual Queue can start anytime from open to evening or not at all, depending on crowds. On weekends and holidays it can happen right at 10am. After receiving your text, you will check in at the end of the return line. It looks scary but is typically no more than a 15-minute wait. For international guests, we will give you a return time if you can’t receive texts. • Sign up for the queue must be done in person. When active, you will find Gideon's staff to the right of the front door under the protection of Gideon's Gargoyle. • Plan for wait times of around two hours. For busy days (Friday through Sunday, holidays, holiday seasons), the virtual queue averages five hours. The earlier you arrive, the shorter the wait and the better the selection since limited edition items will sell out. A general rule, if you know the parks are slammed, we’re slammed. • On average, between 6 pm and 8 pm every day the virtual queue is active, and the waiting list will hit capacity. When this happens the bakery closes the queue to handle everyone on the list and to ensure the bakery closes on time. - We're Do-Happy - Texas based Shipley Do-Nuts opening two Orlando restaurants this Spring
Shipley Do-Nuts, a Texas based chain specializing in handcrafted doughnuts and kolaches made fresh daily, are bringing their fried dough goodies to Orlando for the first time ever this Spring! With over 330 restaurants across 10 states, Shipley Do-Nuts have 60 plus varieties of do-liciousness to choose from, and will be opening at 5919 S Orange Blossom Trail on April 30, and at 2255 S Semoran Blvd. on May 31. The franchise led business, makers of gourmet, made-fresh-daily do-nuts for more than 85 years, will enter the Orlando market after signing a new franchise agreement with MLD Hospitality LLC. MLD Hospitality, led by restaurant industry veteran and former Orlando resident Michael Burns, plans to open five locations in Orange County, with the company already up and running with locations in Bradenton, Jacksonville and Tallahassee. Burns says he believes MLD and the Orlando market could sustain up to 50 Shipley locations in the future. Burns first learned about the brand when he moved to the Houston area from Orlando four years ago. His wife wanted to surprise his team at work with do-nuts, and when she asked the family's new neighbors where she should go for the best do-nuts in town, the answer was unanimous — Shipley. "Of course, she also got some do-nuts for the kids, and they absolutely loved them — our family still talks about the day we discovered Shipley," said Burns, who serves as vice president of operations for MLD Hospitality and who has relocating back to Orlando. "The do-nuts are so fresh — like your mom just made them and served them to you still warm. Nothing on the market compares, and we think the people of Orlando, plus the many visitors to the area, will embrace Shipley Do-Nuts just as we did." Fast-growing Shipley, which first started selling hot, fresh do-nuts in Houston in 1936, has focused on Florida as a growth market. In addition to the planned Orlando locations, the company currently has a multi-unit development deal to open three Shipley Do-Nuts in the Tampa Bay area. In total, Shipley has agreements in place to open more than 350 new locations in Florida, Maryland, Georgia, Tennessee, Colorado and Texas over the next five years. "Florida has been an area of focus for us, and we really got the ball rolling with this latest signing in Orlando," said Shipley Do-Nuts CEO Clifton Rutledge. "Shipley is gaining recognition among potential franchisees who are seeing highly qualified, multi-unit operators investing in our brand, and then when they try the product for themselves, they are hooked. It's simply the World's Greatest Do-Nut." - Disney Cast make wishes come true for Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida at Lake Eola Park
Yesterday, Thursday, March 23, nearly 200 Disney VoluntEARS participated at this year’s Walk for Wishes event at downtown Orlando's Lake Eola Park, raising more than $8.5K to help Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida grant future wishes! At Walt Disney World Resort, cast members have played a big role in bringing more than 145,000 Disney-inspired wishes to life over the last 40 years alongside Make-A-Wish. As a current Disney cast member and Make-A-Wish alumni, Abron Kelly knows this impact firsthand and has always cherished giving back to other wish recipients, both at the resort and across our community. “I’m so grateful for the cast members that help support Make-A-Wish. You have no idea unless you’ve been in the shoes of a sick child or family member how much the magic you create for them means,” said Abron. “I know from personal experience how a wish can provide an escape – a chance to just be a kid and not even think about what illness you have. It’s such a wonderful experience, and I still think about my wish trip to this day.” Madyson Townsend, another wish alum and Disney cast member, also remembers the profound impact of the wish trip she and her brother got to experience together. They were both born with immune deficiencies, and they visited Walt Disney World in 2000 on his wish trip. “My brother Blake chose to go to Walt Disney World so that we could ride Buzz Lightyear together,” Madyson said. “It was the only vacation Blake and I had together because he passed away a few years later. I don’t have a lot of solid memories with him, but I remember that trip – not necessarily what rides we rode or what shows we saw, but I remember the cast we interacted with and the special moments we shared. The thought of creating the same joy that was given to Blake and I is what led me to becoming a cast member.” Abron and Madyson are incredible examples of how powerful Disney’s stories, characters and immersive experiences are for those in need around the world. As cast members, they now get to spread that same happiness and positivity they experienced during their wish trips.
