Disney sucker punch Florida Governor as the company finally fight back against Florida Governor and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors. Today, Wednesday April 26 started with The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors voted to void Disney’s final agreement with the previous Reedy Creek Improvement District Board, that saw Reedy Creek transfer most of it powers over to Disney in a move that sucker punched the Florida Governor's forced State takeover of Reedy Creek. BUT In bigger news today, Disney have finally begun pushing back against the Governor's constant provoking of the company, as it's emerged that Disney is suing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors. Yes, finally, after weeks of constantly bullying by the Governor, Disney have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida.against DeSantis and his puppet board of Meredith Ivey (Acting Secretary of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity), Martin Garcia (Board Chair), and Board members Michael Sasso, Brian Aungst, Jr., Ron Peri, Bridget Ziegler, and Administrator John Classe. In pursuing the lawsuit, Disney say that they have been "forced to defend itself against a State weaponizing its power to inflict political punishment." Disney cites “A targeted campaign of government retaliation—orchestrated at every step by Governor DeSantis as punishment for Disney’s protected speech—now threatens Disney’s business operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region, and violates its constitutional rights.” Disney have been waiting in the wings today to serve the lawsuit, as it makes reference to this morning's meeting where the Board of Supervisors officially voided Disney’s final agreement with the Reedy Creek Improvement District Board. The lawsuits states that “Disney regrets that it has come to this, but having exhausted efforts to seek a resolution, the Company is left with no choice but to file this lawsuit to protect its cast members, guests, and local development partners from a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials.” Another section of the lengthy lawsuit claims, “It is a clear violation of Disney’s federal constitutional rights—under the Contracts Clause, the Takings Clause, the Due Process Clause, and the First Amendment—for the State to inflict a concerted campaign of retaliation because the Company expressed an opinion with which the government disagreed. And it is a clear violation of these rights for the CFTOD board to declare its own legally binding contracts void and unenforceable. Disney thus seeks relief from this Court in order to carry out its long-held business plans.” Also, in the lawsuit Disney says it's fortunate to have resources to battle the State’s retaliation for simply offering a different opinion to that of the Governor over his "Don't Say Gay" Bill, they say "smaller businesses and individuals might not be able to take when the State comes after them for expressing their own views. In America, the government cannot punish you for speaking your mind." It looks like this fight is not one side after all, and things are about to get interesting... Walt Disney World share time capsule letter from Animal Kingdom's Cast Members 25 years ago. During the 25th anniversary celebration at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a time capsule was unearthed that had been put together by cast members in 1998. Among the old photos, news clippings and mementos was a sentimental letter written from the opening team, addressed to today’s Animal Kingdom cast members, which Disney have shared. The time capsule was unearthed last Saturday, April 22, 2023, when Jeff Vahle, President of Walt Disney World Resort, joined the theme park’s first Vice President, Bob Lamb, and other members of the opening leadership team . It was 25 years ago that Bob Lamb (the park’s first vice president) buried the time capsule in the ground, with a plan to open it together on the 25th anniversary. and that's just what they did today, as well as recreating the opening day photograph of the occasion back on April 22, 1997. After opening the time capsule, everyone had a great time looking through the items, which included a piece of engineering hardware – an actuator, to be exact – from a particularly memorable pre-opening project. This trip down memory lane was a reminder that none of it would have been made possible without the many people who dedicated their time and efforts to bringing Disney’s Animal Kingdom to fruition. The Florida Senate Committee on Fiscal Policy has today approved an amendment to create State inspections on the Walt Disney World Monorail System furthering Florida Govenor's Ron DeSantis's war on Disney. Yesterday we brought you the news that Republican Senator Nick DiCeglie was specifically targeting the Walt Disney World Monorail System for state inspections in a move seen as helping Ron DeSantis further his campaign of hate against Disney. Now today, Tuesday, April 25, the amendment, which was seeking to introduce Florida Department of Transportation safety standards for “any governmentally or privately owned fixed-guideway transportation systems operating in this state which are located within an independent special district created by local act which have boundaries within two contiguous counties” has been passed by The Florida Senate Committee on Fiscal Policy. The amendment requires site-specific guidelines for the transportation system developed by the Department of Transportation (FDOT) and representatives of the affected system, plus Walt Disney World would be required to submit annual safety plans to the State. In addition, on-site inspections of the monorail would take place every three years, and would be undertaken by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)at a time that both Disney World and the State agree to. FDOT already inspects other similar transportation systems in the state, including the Orlando International Airport transportation system. Calming fears that the State would order a complete shut down of the monorail system for the inspections, Senator Nick DiCeglie said “having a complete suspension is really going to be an action of last resort.” This would only be if there were any safety issues DiCeglie commented. This amendment is just the latest "stick" to prod Disney for daring to offer a difference of opinion to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the "Just Say Gay" debacle.
