- EPCOT to be the home of Walt Disney World's Disney100 Celebrations, but what can we expect?
Earlier today, we brought you the news that Walt Disney Worlds have revealed 6 months of Disney100 celebrations coming to the resort from next month. Beginning April, each month through August will contain a Story World theme that will celebrates a different Disney franchise each month, including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and Disney Princesses, with the 6 months of celebrations bringing photo opportunities, limited time merchandise and more to the resort. Once the 6 months of celebrations come to an end in September, focus will shift to EPCOT which Walt Disney World have already described as being the home of the resorts Disney100 celebrations. So what can we look forward to? EPCOT will host the Disney100 celebration at Walt Disney World Resort to commemorate this monumental milestone later this year. Enjoy all-new experiences as Walt Disney World celebrate this momentous anniversary and the culmination of the EPCOT transformation – from meeting Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in their platinum attire to snapping a selfie with a platinum sculpture of Walt Disney, and watching Spaceship Earth illuminate the evenings with a special lighting design. Oh and could we see Disney announce the new EPCOT hotel that we know is in the works, and in a total blue sky moment, could we see the resort announce that the Mary Poppins ride is given the go ahead, oh well we can dream right? So back to reality, this fall sees the culmination of the multi-year transformation of EPCOT, which will be tied in with the Disney100 Celebrations. Guests will be able to explore the wonders of water when Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana opens. This fun interactive outdoor trail offers a chance to play and interact with water as it travels from the sky to the oceans and back again. Along the way, guests learn about the importance of water and discover its playful personality – just as Moana did on her heroic voyage. Fall will also see completion of the new World Celebration neighborhood. As the hub of the park, it will feature different gardens that change with the seasons. It is also where guests will discover Dreamers Point, an inspiring overlook showcasing a statue of Walt Disney called “Walt the Dreamer.” Also located in the World Celebration neighborhood, CommuniCore Hall will be the home of a dynamic exhibition space that will transform with each festival throughout the year, as you can see here in one possibility imagined for EPCOT International Festival of the Arts. Playing with light, shapes and reflections, the architecture of this building was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering to celebrate the legacy of EPCOT and the original CommuniCore buildings. When CommuniCore Hall opens in World Celebration later this year, it will be the center of festival programming throughout the park. In new renderings, you can see this will be home to a new character greeting location called Mickey & Friends. You’ll be able to meet Mickey Mouse and some of his best pals in this colorful space. Plus, a new nighttime spectacular will debut at EPCOT later this year, inviting everyone to gather around World Showcase Lagoon for a show that will unite us through commonalities of the heart in a dazzling display of music, pyrotechnics, lasers and lighting, the show will feature an original composition and evocative selections from the Disney songbook – all woven together to remind us that we are more alike than different As always, keep checking back with us here at Gotta Go Orlando as we continue to bring you the latest news and information from around Orlando and Central Florida You can also discover our latest news, views, and more on our socials, follow Gotta Go Orlando on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. - An inside look at how Walt Disney World create the resorts Egg-Stravagant Easter Egg Displays
EGG-STRA, EGG-STRA! Read all about it! The Disney culinary team is bringing a sweet touch to Easter at Walt Disney World with the most delicious hand-crafted Easter egg displays now blooming at select resorts. These egg-shaped chocolate masterpieces delight guests of all ages with fun and fresh designs that are sure to make you hop with joy. For the past 27 years, these chocolate egg-shaped masterpieces have been a rite of spring brought to life through the creativity of our Disney culinary team, who craft innovative ways to share favorite Disney stories, both new and timeless. Each year, guests are eager to see what fresh and fun designs our talented team has come up with, and I must say, this year’s displays will truly have you hopping with joy across our resorts to spy these treasures. Culinary Cast Create Artistry On the Fly If you start your Disney Easter egg hunt at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, you might spot some familiar birds of a feather. Known for designing some of the grandest displays, Assistant Pastry Chef Fabiola Vazquez continues to challenge herself with her delightful creations. This year, Chef Fabiola was inspired to make her 6.5-foot-tall display of Kevin, a beloved character from “UP,” after seeing how guests joyfully reacted to the walkaround character at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Her impressive chocolate sculpture features 1,968 hand-painted feathers and each of Kevin’s baby birds. “I get inspired by people’s reactions to the displays,” Chef Fabiola said. “For me, that is the biggest joy of making these Easter egg displays.” ...And They Go All in on The Details Most of the delicious displays crafted by our team of experts take up to three months to develop and design. Each culinary cast member begins the process by choosing their own themes, materials and colors, and figuring out how they will infuse beloved Disney characters, movies, attractions, and more into their creation. If you look closely, you can find story cards next to some of the eggs that share more about the vision of each cast member who created the display and their connection to the design. “It’s all cast-driven, it’s what they’re passionate about,” said Pastry Chef Kristine Farmer, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This year, the culinary team at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa came up with an exciting new way to interact with guests by adding a live painting experience next to the displays. Be sure to check it out and say hello to the culinary cast, who can tell you all about the art of cocoa-butter painting! Along with giant feathery displays, you can find unique cast creations at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa like an Alice in Wonderland-inspired display featuring a working timepiece or join the Sun Bonnets on stage with a display inspired by the Country Bear Jamboree. Over at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you’ll find even more of these confectionery creations! Crafting an egg-stravaganza that spans beyond land and sea and into the garden Over at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, Pastry Chef Michael Craig and his talented team have also brought whimsical worlds to life using their culinary expertise, out-of-the-box thinking and, of course, a little pixie dust. One of my personal favorites is this immersive scene inspired by the family-favorite Disney Pixar movie, “Finding Nemo,” located in Disney’s Beach Club Resort lobby. After you’ve finished taking in these spectacular displays, take a quick stroll over to Disney’s Yacht Club Resort lobby to find some fresh and fun designs in full bloom created in honor of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. “What we do here with chocolate involves structure size and design, much like the way our horticulturists at Walt Disney World think about the topiaries they design for the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival,” said Chef Michael. “We even tried to replicate the kinds of flowers and plants the horticultural team uses as much as possible in our chocolate versions.” Every flowery detail on these beautiful creations is a delight to the senses, and everyone is encouraged to stop by to admire them in person before they hop away on April 11. With fan-favorite displays like the Figment topiary egg complete with lavish succulents, the vibrant “Encanto”-inspired egg, and of course, spectacular topiary eggs of beloved Disney characters like Donald and Daisy Duck that stand almost 3.5-feet tall, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Of course, this is all possible thanks to the incredibly talented cast members who use their creativity to take inspiration from the tiniest toy models to the grandest sculptures. Be sure to explore more of Walt Disney World Resort during this spring season and marvel at these egg-cellent creations designed by culinary cast who range from experienced bakers to culinary program participants working on their very first large-scale chocolate egg design. If these delicious displays of chocolate mastery inspire you to take the next step in your culinary journey, visit DisneyCulinary.com to learn more and apply today! - Slightly Stoopid coming to Tampa in September with Sublime with Rome, Atmosphere, The Movement!
Veteran San Diego band Slightly Stoopid, who helping create the Cali reggae sound and lifestyle, are preparing to hit the road again for the summer, and the've teamed up with Sublime with Rome for the Summertime 2023 Tour. Joining the two bands are special guests Atmosphere and The Movement. Presale tickets are available on Thursday, March 30, at 10 am. Code: OPENER Get your tickets in Presale and tickets will be $30 all-in while they last! The pairing of Slightly Stoopid and Sublime With Rome has historical connotations for the two groups. The late Bradley Nowell, Sublime’s original frontman, famously discovered Slightly Stoopid by accident when he overheard Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald practicing as teenagers. Nowell signed Slightly Stoopid to his Skunk Records label while they were still in high school, and later produced and appeared on the group’s 1996 debut album, $lightly Stoopid. Together, Sublime and Slightly Stoopid helped anchor a burgeoning style at the intersection of punk, ska, reggae, and California beachside lifestyle that went on to achieve national success. Sublime has lived on following Nowell’s death via Sublime With Rome, the modern iteration of the group featuring Rome Ramirez, which has recorded and toured since 2011. “We couldn’t be more excited for the Summertime 2023 tour,” says Miles Doughty. “We haven't toured with Sublime since the early years of Stoopid and we are really excited to be back with our brothers on what we like to call the ultimate summer band camp. We're stoked to debut some new songs and play new venues and cities we haven't hit for a while. And most importantly we can’t wait to be playing music for all of you this summer… between the on-stage collabs and the backstage hangs it’s gonna be insane! The Stoopidheads are what fuels Slightly Stoopid. Should be an epic summer of madness!!!” Pioneering hip-hop duo Atmosphere joins the Summertime 2023 tour, marking this the first tour with Slightly Stoopid in 10 years. Slug of Atmosphere adds, "We are absolutely excited to have this opportunity to go on tour with Slightly Stoopid, Sublime with Rome, and The Movement. Do not miss your opportunity to come make party with us." The news comes on the heels of their new single “Okay,” off their forthcoming album So Many Other Realities Exist Simultaneously (out May 5th via Rhymesayers Entertainment).
