- Magic Kingdom remains the most visited Theme Park In The World but Universal Orlando is catching up!
The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and AECOM, has released its latest global attractions attendance report, revealing the latest attendance figures for Central Florida's theme parks. The TEA/AECOM Theme Index and Museum Index is an annual study of global attendance at worldwide theme parks, amusement parks, water parks, museums and theme park group operators, ranked by attendance. The index makes for interesting reading as it gives us an insight to attendance levels here in Central Florida theme parks that we might not know otherwise, as parks in general do not release visitor numbers to the public. The TEA/AECOM index is considered the leading worldwide report on attendances and industry trends, using statistics from operators, financial reports and local tourism organizations to compile its report. So lets dig into Central Florida's Theme Parks attendances for 2022! As expected Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World remains the most visited park in Florida, and in fact the world, drawing an estimated 17.13 million attendance. The more surprising news is that Universal’s Islands of Adventure drew bigger crowds in 2022 than the other three Walt Disney World theme parks, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom, and in fact Universal’s other Orlando theme park, Universal Studios Florida drew more visitors than EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios. Universal’s Islands of Adventure drew 11.03 million visitors, while Disney's Hollywood Studios attracted 10.9 million visitors, Universal Studios Florida had 10.75 million guests, EPCOT drew 10 million, with Animal Kingdom's attendance at 9.03 million. From the figure Universal Orlando Resort is breathing down Walt Disney Worlds neck, and it will be interesting to see what impact Universal Orlando Resorts new theme park Epic universe will have on Central Florida Theme Park attendances. Over at SeaWorld Orlando, they drew 4.54 million guests, while sister park, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay attracted 4.01 million visitors. The good news for Central Florida theme parks is that attendances are rebounding to pre-pandemic levels, with the report showing that 2022 was a strong year here in Central Florida. Plus, for the theme park operators the even better news for them (but not us, the public) is that revenue is higher than pre-pandemic levels, even in instances where attendance has dropped or been controlled! TEA/AECOM said in a press release, "The story is about pandemic attendance recovery and increased per-cap spending. Revenues often eclipsed pre-pandemic numbers thanks to operators focusing on improving the guest experience through attendance caps, pricing adjustments, technology to control queue times and more." The press release continued “2022 will be remembered by most as a year of relaxed pandemic restrictions, pent-up demand for out-of-home experiences and a return to some sense of normalcy, as global attractions, with some exceptions, took advantage of these market conditions to attract impressive numbers of visitors through their turnstiles.” For the very latest news and information from Orlando and Central Florida, check back often here at Gotta Go Orlando as we keep you informed throughout the day, every day.
