The tranquil oasis that is The Garden Bistro in Thornton Park will soon close its doors permanently, with the owners teasing a comeback in the future. Home to the popular Sunday Drag Brunch, The Garden Bistro which many of you know as 'Island Time,' has been a tranquil oasis in the city, featuring a backyard garden, complete with lush greenery and a charming fountain for five years, but sadly not for much longer. The business has announced via social media that June will be their last month in business. The Garden Bistro which first opened its doors in late 2019, will close its doors permanetly on June 23, with the owners revealing that the buildings landlord has decided not to renew their lease, feeling that the business is "no longer a viable business for this space." In the post on Facebook announcing the closure, the business owner commented, "I understand that many of you have questions, but I prefer not to air my frustration on social media." The post continued, "After opening in late 2019, we were gaining momentum when COVID hit. Being small helped, as I was here alone, selling $10 dinners and drinks to people heading to the lake. In late 2020, Trinity the Tuck approached me about starting a Drag Brunch. With travel restrictions and bars unable to host entertainment, it was a great idea. It worked for us because most of our seating was outside, in line with the regulations." The Drag Brunch grew from once a month to what they are today, with hundreds of entertainers performing at the outdoor brunch over the last few years, bringing energy and life to the neighborhood. The post continued, "At the beginning of 2023, several things happened. Issues with the Downtown district started, and although we are on the edge of the Downtown district, we had to make changes to our shows. Then, a drunk driver destroyed our parklet seating, forcing us to move our drag shows to the back area, starting our next phase." "We built a wonderful garden area that became our main dining room and a new venue for the shows. This expansion allowed us to obtain a liquor license and start serving cocktails. We hosted parties, weddings, and many fun events for the neighborhood and community. These past years have proven that adversity breeds innovation and growth. We figured out how to adapt and thrive in changing circumstances." "While it's unfortunate that we won't realize the full potential of The Garden, that's okay. This is just another step in our journey forward. I am fortunate that most of my employees have been with me for over four years, which is uncommon in this industry. So, this is not goodbye. It’s more like, "Wait and see what crazy things we do next. Thank you for all the love and support over these past five years. We love and cherish you all." Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive day resort where you and your family can enjoy a one-of-a-kind opportunity to swim with dolphins, and the Orlando attraction has recently welcomed a new dolphin calf. In the last few days, it was announced that on March 29, Discovery Cove welcomed a new dolphin calf to their dolphin pod. Damara, a 16 year-old female dolphin.welcomed the healthy calf, a beautiful baby girl. Throughout her pregnancy, veterinarians provided world-class animal care, including frequent sonograms to monitor the calf's growth and development. Now, the veterinary team has been closely monitoring the baby girl to ensure she’s growing at a healthy rate. The calf receives several regular checkups to study nursing behavior, respiration patterns, as well as bonding-time with Damara (mom). Discovery Cove now wants you to help name the baby girl, they have shortlisted four names and need you to vote for your favorite. Like her Mom (Damara), the dolphin calfs name will begin with the letter D. The names are: Dylan Dahlia Darcy Daphne Dorothy You have from now until June 9 to vote on Discovery Cove's Instagram account, with the winning name announced on June 11. So when can we get our first look at the new dolphin calf? The all-inclusive resort say that their veterinary team will continue to monitor the calf for important health milestones before she makes her first public apperance in the parks' Dolphin Lagoon. Rock The Universe will return in 2025 for its 27th year at Universal Orlando Resort, bringing thousands of christians together for a weekend of faith and fun. Rock the Universe is Florida’s biggest Christian music festival, a separately ticketed, after-hours event offers with thousands of fans and youth groups coming together to enjoy moving performances by some of Christian music’s top artists, together with powerful worship experiences and thrilling theme park attractions at Universal Studios Florida. Rock The Universe has been held at Universal Orlando Resort since 1998, and Universal has confirmed that the highly anticipated Christian Music festival will return January 24 - 25, 2025. The new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will take you on a storytelling journey that brings to life the spirit of Polynesia. On May 30, 1967, the first ground was broken for the construction of the Walt Disney World Resort. This week in 1967, Disney officially broke ground in Florida for what would become Walt Disney World! And to mark the occasion, Disney has delved into the archives and shared a few rare images, including somw that have never been shared before. As you can see in this fascinating image that Disney has never shared before from the Walt Disney Archives Photo Library, the iconic Cinderella Castle was one of the first structures to be built on the site. It was spectacular from the beginning – created with nearly 280 tons of steel and other materials. To the left of the photo is the future location of “it’s a small world” and in the top right, the early structure for the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea among other future attractions. Disney artists created and sculpted the Castle’s features, like the turrets, gargoyles and stonework, during early work on the property. Many of the fascinating ornamental additions to Cinderella Castle were created offsite and then delivered to the site and added by cranes. After work began on Cinderella Castle, Magic Kingdom Park began to come together as you can see in another rare image above. The park opened with experiences similar to those found at Disneyland, as well as its own unique attractions, including The Country Bear Jamboree. As it all started to come together and blueprints were worked on, a press event in 1969 gave visitors a first look at what Disney World would actually be. At the Ramada Inn Tower in Ocoee, Florida, visitors were among the first to explore scale models and artwork for the creation of Disney World – and Audio-Animatronics figures! Disney leaders who spoke and signed autographs included Roy O. Disney, Charlie Ridgway, John Hench, Donn Tatum and Card Walker. And during the event, leaders also announced Oct. 1, 1971 as Walt Disney World Resort’s opening date. During the event, Roy O. Disney told a crowd how happy he was to oversee Walt’s dream of a new Disney theme park saying, “Everything you will see here today is something Walt worked on and began in some way. And today, the Walt Disney organization is dedicated to carrying out these wonderful plans in Walt Disney World.” Since the historic opening in 1971, Walt Disney World has continued to grow with the opening of EPCOT in 1982, Disney-MGM Studios (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) in 1989 and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park in 1998 – along with other major openings over the years that have inspired generations of guests who have made Walt Disney World the most visited theme park destination in the world. We just can't wait to be eating these treats for the 30th Anniversary of "The Lion King" at Walt Disney World. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “The Lion King” first graced our screens 30 years ago, and to celebrate the momentous occasion, the culinary teams at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park have put together some adorably delicious bites and sips for you to enjoy starting June 10 and running through Sept. 9, 2024. As you go on your own adventures throughout the park, you can have a foodie one too! Fans of “The Lion King” will be embracing the spirit of hakuna matata as they indulge in limited-time delights that are far from grub. These new items feature some of your favorite characters from the beloved Disney Animation film, like Simba, Timon, Rafiki and Zazu, all brought to life with tasty flavors. When exploring Discovery Island, there are multiple spots serving up can’t-miss “The Lion King” items. For a quick sip, Eight Spoon Café will be featuring The Simba. This refreshing mango-flavored slushy is combined with grenadine and topped with two gummy candies for some (sweet) grub. Over at Isle of Java, the culinary team has put together a truly unique dessert paying homage to none other than Timon’s iconic hula from the film. Timon’s Luau is a layered dessert with vanilla chiffon, passion fruit curd, guava jam, vanilla chantilly cream, an edible tropical flower for the lei and mint for the hula skirt. Before expanding your journey outside of Discovery Island, Tiffins Restaurant has a sweet sip to indulge in. Rafiki’s Squash Banana is a shake blended with squash bananas, baobab fruit, vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamom. Yum! Also, the “Remember Who You Are” The Lion King 30th Anniversary Dessert is a truly beautiful offering. The Kenyan coffee mousse is filled with caramelized bananas, chai chantilly, banana-caramel sauce, chocolate-coffee crumble, chocolate decoration, and sugar sun. It is not to be missed on your next outing to Tiffins Restaurant. As you venture over to Africa, you’ll come across several of these new treats. Tamu Tamu Refreshments will be home to the Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich. This refreshing bite sandwiches vanilla ice cream between two blue cake-coated sugar cookies with a chocolate medallion on top. Harambe Market also will have a sweet delight for you to try. The You Follow Old Rafiki Cheesecake is the perfect dish to give you “no worries.” This passion fruit-mango cheesecake has a coconut-lime crust, vanilla bean chantilly, and a chocolate medallion to finish it off. How adorable! As you continue our foodie adventure throughout Disney’s Animal Kingdom for this momentous anniversary, head to DinoLand U.S.A. Here, there are multiple items worthy of a (lion) king. First, drop into Restaurantosaurus where there are two items on the way. The Shenzi Strawberry Lemonade is quite the refreshing sip and is inspired by one of the iconic members of the hyena trio in the film. It combines Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, Minute Maid Strawberry Smoothie, and blue curaçao syrup served with a souvenir glow cube. Next up, if you love red velvet and villains, you’re in for a treat. The Rightful Ruler Cupcake, which is available both here and at Pizzafari, draws inspiration from Scar himself, so be prepared to be met with flavor. It’s a red velvet cake with cookies ‘n cream cheesecake filling and chocolate icing topped with a chocolate medallion on chocolate rocks. Trilo-bites will be serving up a special item that also is available through September 9, and it features DOLE Whip! The Zazu DOLE Whip Lime and Coconut Float deliciously swirls DOLE Whip Lime into Sprite with coconut and blue curaçao syrup. It’s then topped with a white chocolate medallion. What could be better than “The Lion King” and DOLE Whip? Last but certainly not least, at various outdoor food carts throughout the park, you’ll be able to get your paws, I mean hands, on the Simba Paw Cookie! This sugar cookie is too cute to pass up.
