From swaying eelgrass to hanging Spanish moss, basking alligators to silent deer, the Wekiva River is full of treasured sights typically hidden to all but a select few. Now there’s a wild new way for those in Central Florida to experience the true old Florida.

Wekiva Wild River Tours are now launching from Wekiva Island.

The guided boat tours will take up to six people on a one-hour adventure on the Wekiva River, allowing them a comfortable and immersive way to explore one of the state’s most scenic and pristine waterways. All tours will start from Wekiva Island, the sustainable attraction in Seminole County, making it the only tour of its kind.

“In the past, people could only explore the Wekiva River as far as they could paddle, unless they were one of the lucky handful with a private way to access the river,” said Angel Ramos, Wekiva Wild founder. “We are excited to open a wider window and share this Central Florida gem, and we’re thrilled to call Wekiva Island our home port, only 30 minutes from downtown Orlando.”

The tours will depart every hour and 15 minutes. Tours will be offered daily, year-round. Guests will have the opportunity to explore and learn about the river’s unique ecosystem and abundant wildlife aboard a custom boat, featuring comfortable couches, river-inspired decor, and more. After, they can grab bites or a drink at Wekiva Island and soak up the Florida sun riverside.

Tickets are $42 for adults and $32 for children. Bookings are available here. Guests also have the option of renting the boat for a private tour.

The business is an expansion for Ramos, who also owns AMI Escapes, another boat tour company on Anna Maria Island. Ramos lives locally in Central Florida and wanted to contribute to the community. He said tours are perfect for everyone, from locals and families to visitors who want an authentic taste of the area.

Bill Weinaug, owner of Wekiva Island, said Wekiva Wild is perfectly in line with Wekiva Island’s own goals.

“When I purchased this property, I did it with the goal of being one of the only windows to the magnificent Wekiva River for the public,” he said. “I’m so excited to be able to offer our guests another way to experience this incredible place.”

Wekiva Wild will also be part of Wekiva Island’s annual Winter Wonderland celebration, offering daily “sleigh” rides with a holiday-inspired boat.
