BEST ROLLER COASTER NOMINEES

Best Roller Coaster

EPCOT

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind experience starts, in typical Disney fashion, before you even get on the ride. The queue snakes through the Galaxarium, a planetarium-like display that points out fun facts about the Xandar galaxy portrayed in the Marvel comics and movies. On the coaster, you'll join Rocket, Groot, Gamora and Star-Lord on a reverse-launch mission to save the galaxy. Fully enclosed, this coaster blasts through a sequence of thrilling scenes and also rotates 360 degrees so you don't miss any of the action.

Best Roller Coaster

Universal's Islands of Adventure

Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure takes guests on a thrilling flight through the Forbidden Forest, the grounds of Hogwarts and beyond. Universal collaborated with Stuart Craig and Alan Gilmore, the respective production designer and art director on the Harry Potter films, to bring iconic scenes to life. The coaster features seven launches, more than any other coaster in the world, as well as a free-fall vertical drop.

Best Roller Coaster

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Combining the best elements of steel and wooden roller coasters, the hybrid Iron Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is named for a mythical half-lion, half-tiger beast. Taking the place of the park's Gwazi dual-track wooden coaster, the Iron Gwazi packs in a lot more adrenaline-pumping thrills than its predecessor, leading off with a 91-degree drop from its 206-foot-tall peak, followed by corkscrews, inversions and top speeds of 76 miles per hour.

Best Roller Coaster

Universal's Islands of Adventure

Universal boasts that VelociCoaster, the centerpiece of Jurassic World at the Islands of Adventure theme park, is a "new species of rollercoaster," and 10Best readers agree, voting the high-speed chase through the raptor paddock at Jurassic Park the Best New Theme Park Attraction in 2021. In addition to the thrills of the twisting, turning and soaring steel coaster – including four inversions and two separate high-speed launches – visitors will encounter biting, snapping and running velociraptors on the hunt.

Best Roller Coaster

Guests looking for thrills at SeaWorld Orlando will find them aboard one of the park's roller coasters, Mako. Orlando's tallest and fastest coaster gets its name from one of the world's fastest sharks – appropriate for a thrill ride reaching speeds of 73 miles per hour.

Best Roller Coaster

Universal Studios Florida

Mummies, monsters, fire and a descent into darkness make Revenge of the Mummy one of the best enclosed roller coaster rides in the U.S., and a recent refurbishment enhanced the ride's already scary lighting and special effects. "This is my favorite roller coaster in Universal Studios, and with its recent update, you'll come to love the dark ride adventure filled with many twists and turns as you escape the evil mummy," says expert Nikky J.

Best Roller Coaster

Magic Kingdom

This addition to the Magic Kingdom tracks the action in "TRON: Legacy" as riders race "lightcycles" through a virtual landscape. One of Disney's fastest roller coasters is unique in that each rider gets their own individual bike through both outdoor and immersive, neon-lit indoor sequences. The "race" hits speeds of up to 59 mph.
