The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) today announces the launch of a whimsical and community-driven scavenger hunt to build excitement for its marquee summer exhibition: the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, running May 31 through August 24. This year marks the 11th edition of the acclaimed annual showcase celebrating the most innovative and dynamic artists across the state.
The scavenger hunt will feature 110 rubber flamingos dropped at iconic locations across the greater Orlando area – such as Winter Park, Mills 50, Loch Haven Park and Lake Eola – each symbolizing one of the 110 Florida Prize artists featured over the past 11 years.
“We wanted to create a campaign that not only honors our legacy of presenting groundbreaking Florida artists but also invites the community to celebrate with us in a playful, innovative way,” said Cathryn Mattson, CEO of the Orlando Museum of Art. “The flamingo is a nod to Florida’s identity – and this scavenger hunt is our way of sparking joy and engagement around the arts.”
Every flamingo includes a QR code to scan for a prize. Prizes range from museum memberships to eye-catching merchandise. Six lucky winners will receive tickets to the exclusive Florida Prize Preview Party on Friday, May 30, from 6-9 p.m.
The Florida Prize Preview Party is a ticketed, high-energy evening that brings together art lovers, collectors, and creatives. Guests will enjoy culinary creations from 10 local chefs and caterers, each presenting a dish inspired by a featured Florida Prize artist – blending visual art with culinary expression. One artist will be awarded the $20,000 Florida Prize.
