Lee is forecast to become a major hurricane by early Saturday. While it is too soon to determine the location and magnitude of any possible impacts, Florida is currently not expected to be threatened by storm.
Tropical Storm Lee strengthened into a hurricane on Wednesday, and is forecast to quickly intensify to an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane with winds up to 150 mph by early Saturday.
Lee is the fourth hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season and will likely be the largest storm of the season so far. At this time preliminary forecasts are showing Hurricane Lee curving north, away from Florida, but the National Hurricane Center say that it is too early to determine the exact path of the huge storm.
Lee is currently 1,200 miles east of the Leeward Islands. and is expected to move north of the Caribbean Islands over the weekend, sparing the islands any direct impacts other than rough surf and rip currents. From there Lee is expected to move parallel to the East Coast of Florida, sparing the region of any direct impacts.
