The lesser Madagascar hedgehog tenrec family at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is prickling with joy as Walt Disney World welcome eight new babies!

Although the name may be confusing, lesser Madagascar hedgehog tenrecs aren’t actually hedgehogs at all! They’re more closely related to moles, and one easy way to tell the difference is by their tails. A tenrec’s tail is covered with short spines, while a hedgehog's tail doesn’t have spines at all.

Glitter Toaster Strudel and her new babies are ambassador animals, helping teach guests about the species and how they can help protect wildlife.

You can occasionally spot Glitter Toaster Strudel with keepers at Conservation Station at Rafiki’s Planet Watch!
