Wekiva Island sends off summer with annual Island-inspired event with fire dancers, tropical vibes and family-friendly fun.
Summer might be winding down, but the fun isn’t stopping—at least not at Wekiva Island. The Seminole County eco-venue is inviting Central Floridians to trade everyday routines for an evening of tropical fun during its annual Kona Luau.
The Island tradition returns this year on Saturday, September 26, bringing Hawaiian-inspired entertainment, food and festive activities to the banks of the Wekiva River.
The celebration takes place from 6:30 to 11 pm, with guests encouraged to flaunt their favorite Hawaiian shirts and enjoy an evening that captures the laid-back spirit of the islands while celebrating the close of another Florida summer.
The annual Kona Luau also serves as Wekiva Island's anniversary celebration, marking 18 years of bringing recreation, community and unforgettable experiences to Central Florida.
Festivities kick off with the crowd-favorite hula hoop contest before guests gather for an exciting live fire dancer performance at 7 pm. Throughout the evening, visitors can enjoy $26 buckets of Kona Big Wave, $4 Big Wave drafts, tropical giveaways and island-inspired favorites from Without a Paddle Café
“The Kona Luau has become one of our favorite traditions because it brings the community together in such a fun and memorable way," said Carrie Vanderhoef, manager of Wekiva Island. "Whether you're joining us for the fire dancers, the Kona Big Wave specials or simply to spend an evening on the river with friends and family, it's the perfect way to celebrate another incredible year at Wekiva Island."
Admission to Wekiva Island is $5, and no additional ticket is required to attend the Kona Luau.
