- Crisis aboard the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser as Disney slash the number of available voyages!
In what has to be seen as a worrying development for the future of Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, Walt Disney World have slashed the amount of voyages aboard the troubled experience. As rumours persist about just much demand for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser immersive hotel has dried up, Walt Disney World have announced that they have dramatically cut the amount of available voyages. This is the statement from Disney: "You may notice the schedule has been modified to provide two voyages per week, except for holiday weeks where we may have three voyages. We’ve been learning a lot during our first year of operation and have adjusted voyage dates to meet the needs of our guests." This appears to be an admission that the esperiecne is failing, and failing badly! The latest availability calendar for October through December 2023 show the number of voyages greatly reduced! Up until now, bar dates that Disney have already cancelled, voyages have been a daily offering, now it appears that the number of voyages per week has been reduced to only two! It's common knowledge that the expensive Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser has been suffering with low occupancy, often as low as 25%. In addition, Walt Disney World have cancelled several Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser voyages for summer 2023, at a time when voyages should be selling out, not suffering from low occupancy. Disney have also been offering discounts to DVC members, Annual Passholders, and most recently offering a 50% to Cast Members. When a hotel, or experience is not hitting target after such a short time open, especially with the blaze of publicity that surround the opening, it does not bode well for the future. Only time will tell if Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser will last the course, or if it will disappear into the stratosphere. - Florida indie rock band Flipturn announce headlining show at House Of Blues Orlando
Fernandina Beach indie band Flipturn have a busy year ahead criss crossing the country on the festival circuit, touring as support with Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and headlining their own shows. Fliturn are heading to Orlando with Rainbow Kitten Surprise on May 17 at hard Rock Live Orlando, and now today, Tuesday, March 7, the band have announced their own headlining show at House Of Blues Orlando on Saturday, July 8. Presale begins Thursday at 10 am, Code: OPENER General tickets on sale, Friday 12 pm on Live Nation. Flipturn makes indie music for endless summers, sun-streaked days, and introspective nights. It's a cinematic sound rooted not only in the Florida towns where the musicians first banded together as teenagers, but also in the anthemic live show that's taken flipturn from coast to coast. Shadowglow, flipturn's debut album, distills the energy of those live shows into 14 tracks. Stacked high with indie-rock hooks and shimmering soundscapes, it's a snapshot of a band caught halfway between youthful optimism and adult precision, with songs that target the head as well as the heart. This is otherworldly music with a human core, delivered by five fiercely impassioned musicians who've been cutting their teeth since high school. Progressing into their independent career, flipturn began headlining their own shows across the country, touring with acts like Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Mt. Joy and Wilderado along the way. After amassing over 50 million streams on Spotify alone, they soon graduated to the festival circuit, where they signed their first record deal with Dualtone right before playing a triumphant set at Bonnaroo. That upward momentum is felt throughout Shadowglow, from opening track "The Fall" — where taut tangles of interwoven guitar give way to Dillon's larger-than-life, vibrato-laced vocals — to the atmospheric slow burn of the album's closer, "Orbit." There's a world of eclecticism between those two bookends, too. "Whales" finds Dillon singing about anxiety over a maritime mix of sonar-sounding electronics and ocean-roar percussion, while tracks like "Sad Disco" find room for deep-seated grooves. On "Playground," the band's guitarists trace circles around one another in a game of harmonized hopscotch, ultimately coming together for a full-throttle outro that splits the difference between shoegaze, psychedelia, and anthemic rock & roll. The result is an album for rock clubs, dance floors, and festival crowds — an album fit for headphones, but best enjoyed in the company of others. Flipturn are proud of the community they've built. Shadowglow celebrates those bonds, but it also shines a light on the challenges that face modern-day 20 somethings. "We're writing about problems that this generation has — problems that other generations maybe didn't face," says Dillon, who sings about the human condition in a voice that's elated one minute and weary the next. From condemnations of the Internet to pep talks concerning anxiety and climate change, Shadowglow finds commonality in the individual battles we all wage, creating a vivid soundtrack for moments that can often seem overcast. "We've all grown as musicians since we started the band in high school," says Madeline, "but this album explores the process of figuring ourselves out as people, too. It's about balance. It explores the light and the dark." - Brightline Train reaches a record 130 mph between Orlando International Airport and Cocoa
As excitement builds for rail travel between Orlando and Miami to begin in the second quarter of 2023, Brighline are pressing ahead with the project at record speed! Brightline have revealed that a Brightline train has hit speeds of 130 mph ion the 35-mile stretch between Orlando International Airport and Cocoa, near State Road 528 in Orange and Brevard Counties, making it the fastest train ever to operate in Florida and the southeastern U.S. “Reaching 130 isn’t just another milestone to our team, but the continuation of a dream that we’ve been working towards for several years,” Patrick Goddard, president of Brightline Trains, said in a press release. “More importantly, this historic feat brings us one step closer to launching Brightline service between Orlando and Miami.” Brightline began testing trains on the section of track on Wednesday, March 1, and will continue testing between 7am and 7pm daily, with testing continuing throughout the Spring. Brightline plans to operate at 125mph when passenger service begins, but is required during testing to run at faster than planned operating speeds. The company surpassed its previous top speed of 110 mph, set last fall in testing through Martin and St. Lucie counties. “Florida has alway been at the forefront of train travel since the days when Henry Flagler connected Jacksonville to the Keys,” said Jim Kovalsky, president, Florida East Coast Railway Society. “Back then, there were reports that trains ran at 100 mph, but no one ever dreamed of reaching 130 mph. Brightline dreamed big and did it. History has been made and Henry Flagler would be proud.” The testing is happening as we get ready to ride the rails soon between Orlando and Miami, with stops in Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. Plus further down the line, plans have been revealed, that the line from Miami to Orlando International Airport could eventually link to Tampa, via the main tourist hub in International Drive, with a new station located near the Convention Center. Known as the Sunshine Corridor, this link in conjunction with SunRail will allow connections to the station at Orange County Convention Center, a possible station near Walt Disney World Resort and onto Tampa. The 170-mile expansion connecting Orlando to South Florida stations is 90% complete, AND Brighlineexpect trains to be rolling between Orlando and Miami in the second-quarter of 2023. Brightline also expect to finish its currently under construction Orlando Station as early as March. Brightline has already unveiled exciting renderings of what millions of passengers can expect when they are waiting to ride the rails at Central Florida’s latest attraction, Brightline’s Orlando Station, located at Orlando International Airport. Here is a look at what travellers can expect once inside the new Orlando Station. The guest journey begins at the main entrance, located off the airport’s expansive two-story glass atrium. Once inside the station, passengers can purchase tickets from guest services or one of several self-service kiosks. They will then check luggage before proceeding through touchless turnstiles into the security screening area. Brightline is currently the only rail system in America that screens all passengers and bags prior to boarding. “This world class train station continues our mission of transforming train travel in America,” said Patrick Goddard, president at Brightline. “We have carefully thought through each detail of this station to ensure that it exceeds the expectations of the modern traveler.” The station takes the luxury amenities Brightline is known for to new heights featuring an upscale retail experience with convenient in-station shopping and its Mary Mary Bar, serving hand-crafted cocktails and lite bites. The signature sit-down bar is positioned at the far end of the station with a stunning panoramic view overlooking the train platform where guests can leisurely watch as trains arrive and depart the platform. Located above the Mary Mary bar is an iconic, flip-flap message board that can rotate alphanumeric text and/or graphics to form a message. A nostalgic nod to historic train stations, the flip-flap will provide updated train schedules, boarding times, news of the day and other announcements complete with the flip-flap sound reminiscent of the first passenger train stations in America. The new station will provide modern and luxurious seating areas throughout the station. The station will also feature a kids section within the lounge area. There will also be a premium lounge for first class passengers. First class passengers can expect a quiet, and luxurious space to relax while waiting for a train. Passengers will access trains by escalator or elevators to the first level platform and board from one of two new track platforms. These platforms are 1,000 feet long and will accommodate a train with four coaches and two locomotives that will transport guests on the Orlando to Miami route in just over three hours. Brightline offers two classes of service, SMART and PREMIUM. Brightline’s PREMIUM service, will provide complimentary drinks and snacks in a dedicated lounge and train coach. Throughout the station, all guests will have access to free high-speed Wi-Fi, charging stations at every seat, 87 big screen televisions and a children’s play area located in the SMART lounge. The 37,350 square foot station is located in the heart of Orlando International Airport’s new 80,000 sq. ft. Terminal C and connects directly to the airport’s parking deck C, which will have more than 350 parking spaces reserved for Brightline guests. An automated people mover connects the terminal to the rest of the airport facilities including Terminal A and B in under five minutes. Brightline’s Orlando station is designed by Bigtime Design Studios, an architecture firm based out of Miami, Florida, that also designed the newly opened Brightline stations in Boca Raton and Aventura, alongside the architect of record Sonny Fornoles of Borrelli + Partner. The buildout of the station is led by Orlando-based contractor Gomez Construction Co., a minority owned business whose headquarters are based in Orlando, Florida, and employs more than 100 workers on this project.
