- The Cure announce first North American Tour since 2016, including a stop in Tampa this Summer
English rock band The Cure have announced a 30-date 2023 North American tour including three consecutive nights at both LA's Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden in New York. The band will kick off the tour at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on May 10, with stops including Austin, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia, before stopping off in Tampa's Amalie Arena for the penultimate show on June 29, with the tour ending on July 1 at the Miami-Dade Arena. Tickets for the Tampa show go on sale Friday, March 17 at 10 am via Ticketmaster. Support on all dates comes from the Twilight Sad. This will be the bands first US Tour since 2016, with the band only having performed at Pasadena Daydream Festival and Austin City Limits in 2019. In recent years, Robert Smith has been teasing a Cure album, giving regular progress reports. In 2019, after being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Smith said, “If I’m optimistic it will be finished before the start of this summer.” The album still hasn’t materialized, but we may see new material with the announcement of this tour. The band’s last studio album was 2008’s 4:13 Dream. In recent years, Smith has collaborated with Gorillaz and remixed Chvrches, Deftones, and, just this week, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. - Disney CEO Bob Iger admits that it needs to do more to keep guests happy at Disney's Theme Parks
Today, Thursday, March 9, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger has been speaking at a question-and-answer session during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference. During the investors conference, Disney CEO Bob Iger commented on pricing and value at the Disney Theme Parks. Iger admitted that under the previous leadership of Bob Chapel, Disney had been too aggressive on pricing and needs to retain the brand value of accessibility to its guests. He referenced the most recent changes he has implemented since coming back to Disney that has seen many unpopular company decisions reversed, including removal of parking fees at Walt Disney World resort hotels, changes made with lower-priced ticket availability at Disneyland, removing Park Pass requirements for passholders after 2pm, adding more features to Genie and more. Iger also acknowledged that Disney had to reduce crowding to improve guest satisfaction, he commented “It’s tempting to let more and more people in,” but admitted “if the guest satisfaction level is going down because of crowding, that doesn’t work.” Iger also spoke about future growth in the the parks, “As we continue to invest in those businesses,” Iger said, “which is essentially building out new capacity or new attractions, it gives us the ability to, one, service more people. The more attractions you have, obviously the more people have to do. We can also mine our IP more effectively, those are really important,” he continued, “because those franchises that we do well with in film and in television are truly leverageable at the parks level as we learned with the ‘Star Wars’ investments that we’ve made, the ‘Avatar’ investment we made in Florida, the ‘Toy Story’ investments that we’ve made. And that creates growth for us because it increases capacity and it improves our marketability.” So it appears that we will continue to see more IP within the parks. Iger said that while they obviously don’t have endless IP, they do have plenty to still take advantage of, which leads to growth opportunities. It's interesting to note what Iger never said, with no mention of Reedy Creek and Disney's troubles with Gov Ron DeSantis. - FDOT cancels plans for I-4 Ramp that would have given direct access to Disney Springs
When the Florida Department of Transport announced that it had purchased the popular Crossroads Shopping Center just outside Walt Disney World's Hotel Plaza Blvd. entrance in Lake Buena Vista to help with 1-4 improvements we were heartbroken! For many year's we had frequented the shops and restaurants here, remember The Disney Store? Or the best grocery store in Orlando, Gooding's, we miss our late night stops for cake on our way home! The only saving grace was that FDOT had plans to help ease traffic congestion heading into Disney Springs by building a new interchange at State Road 535 and I-4 with a ramp that would have given direct access to Hotel Plaza Boulevard and Disney Springs, and anyone who has been caught in traffic on Hotel Plaza Boulevard, will know that was news to celebrate, but sadly it's not going to happen now. The long-planned flyover from Interstate 4 to the Disney Springs area has been scrapped! So basically, FDOT is no longer going to help ease traffic congestion heading in and out of the Disney Springs area on Hotel Plaza Boulevard. The planned interchange would have allowed drivers on northbound SR-535 to make a right turn onto a flyover ramp to avoid SR-535 traffic and access Hotel Plaza Boulevard. This would have helped eliminate backed up traffic on northbound SR-535 trying to access Hotel Plaza Boulevard, and in turn hopefully ease the lines of traffic being held up further back the line on the 1-4! The new plan is to make a giant loop ramp from SR-535 to westbound I-4 on the former Croosroads land to eliminate the need for drivers to turn left across traffic to get onto I-4 west. The work also includes lengthening the I-4 west exit ramp, realigning the I-4 west entrance ramp and building an express lane on I-4 west. FDOT are of the opinion that this will still help the area, easing backups from SR-535 to I-4 west. FDOT claim that the ramp into Disney Springs was axed to provide “the best return on investment.” Only time will tell if FDOT have chosen the right way to go! - Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration axed as new Nighttime Spectacular confirmed!
Back in January, we brought you the news that a brand new nighttime drone show was being developed for Universal Studios Florida. The latest news is that the current nighttime show at Universal Studios Florida, Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration has played its last performance already, as Universal Orlando Resort have confirmed that the show has officially ended its run to make way for a brand new nighttime spectacular. The surprising announcement from Universal Orlando Resort of the closure of Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration is very sudden, and although we knew the shows days were numbered, the sudden closure seems strange that guests never got a closure date, or a last chance to see the show. Universal have not released any details on the new show, or when it is due to debut, leaving Universal without a nighttime show at Universal Studios Florida until the new show debuts. As we have reported before, testing is already underway on the new show, and Universal Creative have been using drones during the testing within Universal Studios Florida. Right now it's too early to know the specifics of the show, and we will keep you updated, but the new show is further proof that Universal is definitely breathing down the necks of Disney, who are also believed to be developing its new EPCOT nighttime show to include drones also. Definitely interesting times ahead, we will bring al the latest right here at Gotta Go Orlando. - Unions announce “Rally For A Raise” as stalemate continues on Wage Negotiations with Disney World
Contract negotiation between unions representing Walt Disney World Cast Members and Walt Disney World have been at stalemate for several weeks following a breakdown in talks between the two sides. At the most recent talks between the two sides came following an overwhelming 96% rejection of Walt Disney World’s offer to gradually raise wages to $20 over the next few years by cast members in a ballot organised by the Service Trades Council Union, who represent more than 45,000 Walt Disney World Cast Members. At the negotiations, union representatives revealed that Disney had returned to the table with a WORSE offer than the one that Cast Members had rejected. Now the Service Trades Council Union has announced a “Rally For A Raise” in the shadow of Cinderella's Castle at the Reams Road entrance to Walt Disney World, located close to West Clock Cast Parking, where Magic Kingdom Cast Members park while working. The "Rally For A Raise" is set to take place March 16 at 5 pm. In announcing the "Rally For A Raise" on social media, the union states that they are prepared to meet for negotiations whenever Disney is ready to give Cast Members $18 minimum in 2023, and full retroactive pay back to October 2022. Unions are now urging Cast Members to tell the world how hard it is to live on Disney wages.
