  • Orange County awards $15,000 Grant to Central Florida Dreamplex for Youth Wheelchair Basketball

The grant will fund the purchase of specialized sports wheelchairs, expanding opportunities for young athletes with disabilities to participate in adaptive sports. Orange County's Neighborhood Services Division has awarded Central Florida Dreamplex a $15,000 Youth Sports Enhancement Grant. The funds will help the local nonprofit expand its Orlando Magic Dreamers youth wheelchair basketball program."Wheelchair basketball gave me a space where my disability didn't hold me back," said Adriel Rosario, a 16-year-old member of the Orlando Magic Dreamers. "The team gave me a community where I belong and a court where I can compete at full strength." The grant will support the purchase of uniforms and specialized sports wheelchairs. Due to the high cost of sports wheelchairs, the County's investment will expand access to adaptive sports and create more opportunities for athletes ages 5 to 18 who might otherwise be left watching from the sidelines. "We are incredibly grateful to Orange County for investing in our athletes," said Cameron Gomes, CEO of Central Florida Dreamplex. "This grant will help more young people get onto the court, build confidence, and experience the belonging that comes from being part of a team." The Youth Sports Enhancement Grant provides financial support for facility improvements and program enhancements for eligible nonprofit organizations that offer public youth sports programs. To qualify, organizations must ensure that their programs are accessible to all participants and do not require exclusionary eligibility criteria. • Art in the Atrium Opening Reception: “Feather & Flame: Portraits of Wonder” by Angela Scott

Angela Scott is a contemporary artist whose work celebrates the quiet beauty, resilience, and wonder found in the natural world. Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs is hosting its next exhibition in the Orange County Administration Center. Feather & Flame: Portraits of Wonder by Angela Scott will be on display soon in the Atrium Gallery, Orange County Administration Center, 201 S. Rosalind Ave., Orlando, with an opening reception being held on Friday, August 14, 2026. The exhibit will be on display through Thursday, September 3, 2026. The Administration Center is open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5:30 pm, excluding holidays. Angela Scott is a multimedia artist whose expressive acrylic, mixed media, and watercolor paintings celebrate the quiet beauty, resilience, and wonder of the natural world. In Feather & Flame: Portraits of Wonder, Scott encourages viewers to experience wildlife not simply as subjects to observe, but as invitations to slow down, embrace curiosity, and discover the beauty that quietly surrounds us. Admission to the opening reception on August 14, 2026 at The Atrium Gallery is free, but advanced registration is requested. Doors open at 5 pm, with the program beginning at 5:45 pm. About The Artist Angela Scott is a contemporary artist whose work celebrates the quiet beauty, resilience, and wonder found in the natural world. Working in primarily acrylic, but also with mixed media and watercolor, she creates expressive portraits of birds and wildlife that invite viewers to pause, look closer, and reconnect with the extraordinary hidden in everyday moments. Living in Central Florida with her husband and two neurodivergent children, Angela draws inspiration from the way they experience the world: with curiosity, honesty, and an appreciation for details that are often overlooked. That perspective has transformed not only how she sees nature, but how she approaches painting. Each piece becomes less about documenting an animal and more about capturing its spirit, personality, and emotional presence. Layering bold color, rich texture, metallic accents, and expressive mark-making, Angela balances realism with imagination to create works that feel both familiar and dreamlike. Birds frequently take center stage, serving as symbols of resilience, freedom, transformation, and individuality; qualities that echo throughout her collection. Through Feather & Flame: Portraits of Wonder, Angela invites viewers to experience wildlife not simply as subjects to observe, but as reminders to slow down, embrace curiosity, and find beauty in the moments that quietly surround us. Her hope is that each painting sparks a sense of connection, joy, and wonder long after the viewer has walked away.
