- Meet the newest Baby Animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Celebrate a season full of baby animals, big milestones, and heartwarming moments at Disney World this spring. Spring has officially sprung at Walt Disney World, and with it comes some adorable new baby animals! Disney is celebrating a season full of baby animals, big milestones, and heartwarming moments happening behind the scenes at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. It’s a girl! Earlier this month, a female Masai giraffe calf was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, arriving at approximately 120 pounds and standing nearly six feet tall. Her mom, Willow, has been right by her side helping her curious calf get the hang of life as they bond and settle in together. While she may be small now (by giraffe standards!), her arrival is a big moment for her species. Masai giraffes are classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with an estimated 30,000 remaining worldwide. Through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, Disney works with experts to help care for giraffes and support a healthy population for generations to come. Behind the scenes at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the animal care team is keeping a close eye on her growth and milestones. “She’s already had her first checkup and is doing great, so mom is happily in charge,” said Bri, an animal keeper at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. “Right now, she’s rarely far from her side, following her around the barn, exploring her surroundings and learning something new every day.” For now, the calf is spending time backstage with mom Willow, but before long, guests will be able to spot her stretching her long legs on Kilimanjaro Safaris as she joins the rest of the herd this summer, including fan favorite Tucker (her half‑brother!) who was born in 2025. Discover the latest theme park news and updates from Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, LEGOLAND Florida, and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. And our newest giraffe calf isn’t the only one stealing hearts this spring. Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, several other baby animals have arrived, and they’re already making a big impression. A male nyala calf named Parker is settling into his new home. Nyala calves are born with white stripes and spots that help them blend into tall grass, and as he grows, Parker will develop a darker coat and the iconic spiral horns that make male nyalas so distinctive. “We’ve been welcoming new baby animals to the lodge since its opening more than 25 years ago, so our team knows exactly how to prepare them for life on the savanna — from gradual introductions to space and sounds to watching how they respond to mom and their new environments,” said Mel, an animal keeper at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. “Even with all that experience, no two arrivals are ever the same.” You may already recognize these little ones. Red river hog piglets Mason, Cooper, and Phillip, born to mom Clementine, plus Demi, who was born shortly after to mom Persimmon, are starting to explore their savanna habitat at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. They’re already full of personality as they stick close to their moms and discover their new home. And last but certainly not least, Mabel, the first Ankole calf born at Walt Disney World in more than 20 years, is thriving under the care of Disney’s expert animal care team. Though she’s small now, Mabel will one day grow the striking, sweeping horns that make Ankole cattle such an unforgettable sight. While these young animals are currently spending time backstage — bonding with their mothers, growing stronger, and receiving round-the-clock care — it won’t be long before they make their debut on the savannas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge this summer. Spotting a young animal exploring its habitat creates unforgettable moments for guests and sparks curiosity, connection, and appreciation for wildlife. These exciting milestones reflect Disney’s ongoing commitment to conservation around the world through the Disney Conservation Fund. Since 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund has directed more than $141 million to community conservation programs to support organizations working with communities to protect wildlife, inspire action, and promote environmental resilience. Thanks to the passion and expertise of cast members, these newest arrivals help bring conservation stories to life for guests every day — and we can’t wait for you to meet them. To see more of the work our teams do to care for more than 5,000 animals across Walt Disney World, be sure to follow along on Instagram and Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment on Facebook. - Walt Disney World adding a 4th Ferryboat to and from Magic Kingdom, named after Meg Crofton
All aboard for Magic Kingdom! A fourth ferry boat will sail across the Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World starting next year. As Magic Kingdom undergoes its largest expansion ever, we’re also investing in our experiences that get you to the park. For the first time since 1976, we’re expanding our fleet of ferryboats that provide complimentary transportation between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom. It’s my favorite way to get across Seven Seas Lagoon, and it makes the transition to “the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy” so easy and seamless for our guests. First Disney World Ferryboat Since 1976 If you’re team ferryboat like me (IYKYK), this is a really big deal. A 120-foot-long big deal, in fact! Next year, the brand-new ferryboat will set sail, increasing our fleet from three to four ferries here at Walt Disney World. A team of engineers and craft workers have been hard at work designing and building the new ferryboat. It’s actually been under construction at a marina in Florida, and we’re getting ready to ship it – in pieces – to our property over the next couple of weeks! It’s still going to take some time, expertise and a little bit of Disney magic before it’s ready. We have to assemble the pieces, paint, and put on all the final touches. This process will take about a year, so we’re looking forward to launching this new vessel in 2027. Naming the New Ferryboat In 1997, to honor three individuals who were instrumental in making the resort a reality, Disney World rechristened our existing ferryboats as the Admiral Joe Fowler, the General Joe Potterand the Richard F. Irvine. Now, 30 years later, we get to add another name to that list! We’re continuing the legacy of honoring individuals who’ve had a significant impact on Disney World by calling the fourth ferryboat the Meg Gilbert Crofton, named after Disney World’s fourth president. Meg started her Disney career in 1977 as a marketing manager and, after several roles in the company, took the helm as president of Walt Disney World from 2006-2013. Discover the latest theme park news and updates from Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, LEGOLAND Florida, and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Just like the other ferryboats, Meg’s portrait will be found on the first deck of the new vessel. It was developed by Walt Disney Imagineering, and it will be accompanied by a plaque that will share Meg’s story with generations of guests as they glide across Seven Seas Lagoon. “I was humbled to learn that my name would be on this new ferryboat,” Meg said. “It means so much to be recognized by the cast members I had the privilege of working with for so many years.” Meg Crofton’s Disney Legacy During her tenure as president, Meg ushered in Disney World’s first major theme park expansion since the opening of Animal Kingdom: New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom. That expansion brought to life fan-favorite experiences like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Be Our Guest Restaurant. She also contributed to Disney World’s Resort hotels, opening Art of Animation in 2012. The family-friendly resort surrounds guests with stories like Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid, complete with oversized characters and a Big Blue Pool for extra fun! Just as impressive was the legacy she left with the people she led along the way. Guided by the belief that what truly lasts is how you make others feel, Meg always had – and continues to have – a genuine interest in the dreams and aspirations of cast members from across the company. When Meg received her window on Main Street, U.S.A. in 2015, it identified her as the founder of the “Center for Leadership Development,” adding, “We start leaders on their journeys.” If you’ve visited Disney World before, you know a trip across Seven Seas Lagoon on a ferryboat really is an attraction in and of itself. You just can’t beat the view from the upper deck as you glide across the water toward Magic Kingdom. This new vessel will fit seamlessly alongside the resorts existing ferryboats, with a similar capacity, look and feel. GRAMMY-award winning, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo is one of the most influential artists of today. After shattering records with her chart-topping, 6x Platinum debut album SOUR – the fastest album in history to have all of its songs certified RIAA Platinum or higher – 3x GRAMMY® Award winning singer -songwriter Olivia Rodrigo made a monumental return with her sophomore album GUTS, revealing newly heightened sophistication as a vocalist and lyricist. This year, Rodrigo is set to release her third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, on June 12th. The first single, drop dead, was released on Friday, April 17th. Hailed by The New York Times as “a songwriter of rather astonishing purity” Rodrigo has received fourteen GRAMMY® Award nominations including nods for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year for her work on both SOUR and GUTS. She took home awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 64th GRAMMY® Awards. She was named New Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards, Woman of the Year at Billboard’s 2022 Women in Music Awards and Songwriter of the Year at both the ASCAP Pop Music Awards and Variety Hitmakers. She has also received seven Billboard Awards, a Brit, a Juno, and an NME Award while “Olivia Rodrigo: driving home 2 u (a SOUR film)” won Best Music Documentary honors at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards. SOUR entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 and would go on to become the longest-running debut album in the chart’s top 10 of the 21st century—and the first to spend an entire year in the upper echelon. SOUR also entered the charts at No. 1 in the U.K., Canada, Ireland, Norway, Holland, Sweden, Australia, and New Zealand. Upon release, SOUR scored the most U.S. audio streams for a female debut album ever and broke the record for the most-streamed album in a week by a female artist on Spotify. In 2022, she kicked off her first-ever world tour—a sold-out run that took her to upwards of 40 cities across North America and Europe. Praised as an “instant classic” by Rolling Stone, Rodrigo’s sophomore album GUTS debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, coinciding with lead single “vampire” returning to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and Rodrigo’s No. 1 ranking on the Artist 100, thereby giving her a chart triple. Rodrigo is the first female artist in nearly a decade to debut her first two albums atop the Billboard 200 and the youngest artist in Hot 100 history to debut three hits at No. 1 (“vampire” and SOUR’s “drivers license” and “good 4 u”). GUTS’ remaining 11 tracks charted in the top 40 of the Hot 100. GUTStopped the album charts in over 13 countries, including the UK. In 2024, Rodrigo embarked on her second world tour – GUTS World Tour, which wrapped in the summer of 2025 after 100 sold-out headline shows in 64 cities across more than 21 countries. She donated a portion from her net proceeds from the GUTS World Tour to charities around the globe. The donation was distributed via Rodrigo’s Fund 4 Good – a global initiative committed to building an equitable and just future for all women and girls through direct support of community-based non-profits that champion girls’ education, support reproductive rights and prevent gender-based violence. Rodrigo was named Billboard’s 2024 Touring Artist of the Year after the massive global success of her GUTS World Tour. Before the year ended, Rodrigo achieved another career milestone with the release of her first contribution to a film soundtrack: “Can’t Catch Me Now” from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (Music From & Inspired By). The song, nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for Best Song Written For Visual Media, won a 2023 Hollywood Music In Media Award for SciFi/Fantasy Film, a 2024 SCL Award for Outstanding Original Song For A Dramatic Or Documentary Visual Media Production and was shortlisted for the 2024 Oscars. In 2025, Rodrigo continued to tour through South America, performing at her first ever stadium in Curitiba, Brazil. Dominating the festival circuit, Rodrigo performed at Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City, bringing generations together with special guests such as David Byrne. Rodrigo made history as the second youngest person ever to headline Glastonbury, bringing out iconic special guest Robert Smith of The Cure, and now her LIVE FROM GLASTONBURY (A BBC RECORDING), an album that captures her headline set from the renowned UK festival is available for pre-order. After officially wrapping her GUTS world tour in the summer, Rodrigo joined forces with Feist for a stripped-back acoustic performance of “We’re Going to Be Friends” to honor The White Stripes at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony that Fall. Carisa Hendrix is a respected magician and variety artist who brings magic, mischief, and mayhem to the stage with their highly reviewed semi-improvised performances. This larger-than-life performer has earned accolades for their delightful comedic flair and amazing magical stunts. Well-loved in the world of variety arts, Hendrix has won countless different awards and thrilled audiences worldwide. Lucy Darling is Hendrix's most recognizable creation. Born at the Melbourne Magic Festival in 2017, Lucy is a charming vintage Hollywood socialiate known for her impeccable wit, playful mischief, and exceptionally good hair. As Lucy Darling, Hendrix has toured the world, delighting audiences of all sizes --- but in December of 2024, everything changed when a clip from a recent show went viral on TikTok, amassing millions of views. Soon, Lucy became an internet sensation across several social media platforms: the Lucy Family Tree is now made up of more than 4 million followers. In 2025 alone, more than 50,000 people attended live Lucy Darling performances, many of which were completely sold out. Even before Lucy emerged on the scene, Hendrix was already well established in the world of magic, circus, and variety arts. They have been featured in the Guinness Book of World Records (2014 Book, Page 86), Ripley's Believe it or Not!, and a SuperChannel documentary Carisa Hendrix: Girl on Fire which follows their trials and tribulations of creating a new magic and illusion show on the Las Vegas strip. Growing up in Calgary as a young child, Hendrix was an avid youth volunteer, where they met the actors, magicians, and circus performers who would help to shape their early career. At 16, Hendrix's interest in the carnival sideshow was sparked by a chance encounter with an elderly performer and the misguided support of a high school chum. After only a few months of training, they began doing small shows, and despite the unpolished quality, the bookings kept coming in. After high school, Hendrix worked as a children's educator & program director at not-for-profit organizations, but it was too late; their love for performing was apparent. As rewarding as teaching was, the shiny allure of the stage was just too enticing. Hendrix has found new ways to incorporate their passion for teaching, such as running the junior program at the annual Vanishing Inc. convention, MagiFest. Hendrix was fortunate to work alongside a massive roster of talented artists and entertainers early in their career. These individuals provided encouragement, vital knowledge, and support, opening Hendrix's eyes to various performing styles and keeping them thoroughly humbled for many years. Hendrix has always been an avid learner and studied acting, dance, comedy, circus, prop manipulation, vaudeville, burlesque, modeling, and magic. After being accepted to the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2007, they studied visual and performance art, graphic design, and video. This diverse, somewhat haphazard education culminated in the signature style Hendrix is known for. Discover the latest entertainment news from Orlando and throughout Central Florida. Judy Collins has inspired audiences with sublime vocals, boldly vulnerable songwriting, personal life triumphs, and a firm commitment to social activism. In the 1960s, she evoked both the idealism and steely determination of a generation united against social and environmental injustices. Five decades later, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic 55-album body of work, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to thrive in the music industry for half a century. The award-winning singer-songwriter is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her stunning rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” from her landmark 1967 album, Wildflowers, has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Judy’s dreamy and sweetly intimate version of “Send in the Clowns,” a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical A Little Night Music, won “Song of the Year” at the 1975 Grammy Awards. She’s garnered several top-ten hits gold- and platinum-selling albums. Recently, contemporary and classic artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Shawn Colvin, Dolly Parton, Joan Baez, and Leonard Cohen honored her legacy with the album Born to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins. Judy began her impressive music career at 13 as a piano prodigy dazzling audiences performing Mozart’s “Concerto for Two Pianos,” but the hard luck tales and rugged sensitivity of folk revival music by artists such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger seduced her away from a life as a concert pianist. Her path pointed to a lifelong love affair with the guitar and pursuit of emotional truth in lyrics. The focus and regimented practice of classical music, however, would be a source of strength to her inner core as she navigated the highs and lows of the music business. In 1961, she released her masterful debut, A Maid of Constant Sorrow, which featured interpretative works of social poets of the time such as Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, and Tom Paxton. This began a wonderfully fertile thirty-five-year creative relationship with Jac Holzman and Elektra Records. Around this time Judy became a tastemaker within the thriving Greenwich Village folk community and brought other singer-songwriters to a wider audience, including poet/musician Leonard Cohen – and musicians Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman. Throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and up to the present, she has remained a vital artist, enriching her catalog with critically acclaimed albums while balancing a robust touring schedule. Prolific as ever, Judy recorded a DVD special Judy Collins: A Love Letter To Stephen Sondheim, in her hometown of Denver, CO. Along with the Greely Philharmonic Orchestra, Judy dazzled the audience with Sondheim’s beautiful songs and her lovely, radiant voice. DVD and CD companion will be released in early 2017. Judy also released a collaborative album in June 2016, Silver Skies Blue, with writing partner, Ari Hest. Silver Skies Blue has been GRAMMY nominated for BEST FOLK ALBUM in 2017, this is the first GRAMMY nomination for Collins in over 40 years. In 2012, she released the CD/DVD Judy Collins Live At The Metropolitan Museum Of Art which aired on PBS. This special television program was nominated for a New York Emmy and won a Bronze Medal at the 2013 New York Festival International Television & Film Awards. Based on its success, in 2014 she filmed another spectacular show in Ireland at Dromoland Castle. Live In Ireland was released in 2014. This program also won a Bronze Medal at the 2014 New York Festival International Television & Film Awards and the program will broadcast on PBS in 2014 and 2015. Judy’s most recent collaboration with her as a singer-songwriter is the 2019 album Winter Stories, including critically-acclaimed Norwegian folk artist Jonas Fjeld, and masterful bluegrass band Chatham County Line. Winter Stories, is a collection of classics, new tunes, and a few surprises, featuring spirited lead vocal turns, breathtaking duets, and Judy’s stunning harmony singing. Collins released her most recent album, Spellbound, in 2022. It was the first studio effort in Judy’s 60-plus-year career to feature all-original songs written by her. Judy has also authored several books, including the powerful and inspiring, Sanity & Grace and her extraordinary memoir, Sweet Judy Blue Eyes: My Life in Music. For her most recent title to be released in 2017, Cravings, she provides a no-holds barred account of her harrowing struggle with compulsive overeating, and the journey that led her to a solution. Alternating between chapters on her life and those of the many diet gurus she has encountered along the way (Atkins, Jean Nidtech of Weight Watchers, Andrew Weil, to name a few), Cravings is the culmination of Judy’s genuine desire to share what she’s learned—so that no one has follow her heart-rending path to recovery. In addition, she remains a social activist, representing UNICEF and numerous other causes. She is the director (along with Jill Godmillow) of an Academy Award-nominated film about Antonia Brico – PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN, the first woman to conduct major symphonies around the world–and Judy’s classical piano teacher when she was young. Judy Collins is as creatively vigorous as ever, writing, touring worldwide, and nurturing fresh talent. She is a modern-day Renaissance woman who is a filmmaker, record label head, musical mentor, and an in-demand keynote speaker for mental health and suicide prevention. She continues to create music of hope and healing that lights up the world and speaks to the heart.
