  • Walt Disney World celebrates World Wish Day with four ‘wild’ wishes at Disney's Animal Kingdom

To celebrate World Wish Day, Disney's Animals, Science and Environment cast helped four ‘wild’ wishes come true with Make-A-Wish America. After “Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom” helped five-year-old Cora get through hospital stays while battling coronary heart disease, there was no hesitation on where she wanted to visit. So, alongside Make-A-Wish, Walt Disney World planned a special day for Cora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom filled with all the wild wonders of the park! At just four days old, Cora had her first procedure. When she was one, she had her first open-heart surgery before doctors decided she would need a heart transplant. To help take her mind off everything, Cora’s family started watching “Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom” on Disney+ “We started watching the show at the hospital, and it gave Cora an escape,” her mom said. “She was watching the animals go through some of the same things she was going through during treatments, and it calmed her fears. It means the world to now see her wish come true and enjoy being a kid with the people most special to her.” Cora Meets Corra When planning for the big day, the elephant keepers at Walt Disney World had someone very special they wanted Cora to meet … baby elephant Corra! Corra made her savanna debut at the park two months ago and was the first animal Wish Kid Cora asked to see. The meet and greet was the beginning of what would turn into a day where wishes came true and memories were made! “I’ve been on the team for 16 years, and this is an extra special experience,” elephant keeper Michelle said. “It’s really meaningful to do something that turns into someone’s wish.” Despite spending much of her young life in the hospital, Cora doesn’t let anything hold her back. She has big dreams for her future which includes becoming a doctor some day. After spending time with her favorite cast on the show, veterinarians Dr. Jen and Dr. Geoff, she’s more inspired than ever before to help others. Even more so now after practicing with her very own stethoscope! More “Wild” Wishes During Earth Month Not only did Animals, Science and Environment cast help grant Cora’s wish, but they helped grant the wishes of three other children from across the country. The “wild” wishes included an exclusive safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, an up-close encounter with cotton-top tamarins and lemurs at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a private visit with cast and a few furry friends at Rafiki’s Planet Watch and more. “This is what it’s all about for me,” said animal operations manager Sam. “Being able to share my passion for animals and conservation with guests, and Make-A-Wish families in particular, is something I’ve always dreamed of. To be able to see the smiles and joy on their faces … I love it.” More than 50 cast members worked together to make each wish an unforgettable experience. The week finished out with a group party alongside everyone's favorite Wilderness Explorer, Russell, and his four-legged friend, Dug! 55,000 Wishes Granted with Disney … and Counting Disney cast members are the best storytellers and creators on the planet, all united around a shared purpose to create happiness for guests, including Make-A-Wish families. Wish trips have the power to renew hope and uplift spirits for children facing critical illnesses and their families. When you pair that with our stories, characters and unmatched experiences like this, wishes help deliver joy when it’s needed most. For over four decades, Disney has granted more than 155,000 Disney wishes with Make-A-Wish. This makes us the largest wish-granter in the world for the organization! At Walt Disney World alone, cast members help grant thousands of wishes each year. • Coach Dawn Staley celebrates historic Women’s College Basketball National Championship at Walt Disney World

South Carolina coach Dawn Staley has celebrated historic championship at Walt Disney World, taking part in a celebratory parade at Magic Kingdom. After proclaiming “I’m Headed to Disney World’’ immediately following the South Carolina women’s basketball national championship win earlier this month, Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley arrived Saturday, April 27, 2024 at The Most Magical Place on Earth where she had a festive time experiencing signature Disney attractions and taking part in a celebratory parade at Magic Kingdom. Staley started the day off with a ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and by midday she was at Magic Kingdom riding atop a parade float with her fellow South Carolina basketball assistant coaches, the center of attention during a celebratory afternoon cavalcade down Main Street, U.S.A. There were streamers, fireworks, Disney characters and cheering guests. She even got to spend some time interacting with Minnie Mouse, who showed up dressed in her own basketball uniform. Staley, a six-time WNBA All-Star as a player, coached the South Carolina team to its third women’s basketball national title on April 6, a fairytale ending to its undefeated season, which pushed Staley’s record to 109-3 over the last three years. She is one of only a handful of coaches in women’s college basketball history with three national crowns. After the Gamecocks won the title earlier this month, Staley announced during a live post-game interview on national TV that she was “Going to Disney World!’’ That proclamation continues Disney Parks’ popular tradition of celebrating major national champions at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort – a tradition that started with the New York Giants following their Super Bowl win in 1987. Staley joins the biggest names in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and the Olympics who have celebrated their greatest sports achievements at a Disney park. • Tyler Childers to open for The Rolling Stones on Hackney Diamonds Tour at Orlando's Camping World Stadium

Exciting news! Tyler Childers will open the show on June 3 for The Rolling Stones at Camping World Stadium. Be sure to get there early! The Rolling Stones are hitting the road this summer, with the legendary rockers heading out across North America on the 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour in support of their chart-topping album Hackney Diamonds. Ads the tour gets closer, the lineup of openers for the stadium tour have been announced including the bands show in Orlando on June 3, with country singer and songwriter, Tyler Childers opening the show. Childers will bring his mix of traditional country, bluegrass, and folk to the huge stage at downtown's Camping World Stadium. Hailing from the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky, Tyler Childers is part of a wave of 2010s Americana artists who prize authenticity both in their songs and sound. Sonically, he borrows heavily from the weathered, ornery progressive country records of the 1970s, a comparison brought into sharp relief on his second album, 2017's Purgatory, which was produced by the acclaimed Americana rocker Sturgill Simpson. Childers' success continued with a Grammy nomination for "All Your'n," a cut from 2020's politically charged bluegrass album Long Violent History. Where that record benefitted from his control, its 2022 successor Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven? showcased his ambition, featuring a variety of styles spread over the course of three LPs. Childers tightened back up for his latest release, Rustin' in the Rain, an alternately raucous and empathetic album that was released in September. In addition to the show in Orlando, at Camping World Stadium on Monday, June 3, 2024, the group, led by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ron Wood, will perform in 16 cities across the U.S. and Canada, playing a combination of classics, deep cuts and songs from their latest album. Fans can expect to experience Mick, Keith and Ronnie play their most popular hits ranging from “Start Me Up,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Satisfaction” and more. Get tickets now. Have you got your tickets for the show on June 3? Let us know in the comments below!
