The Florida Prize in Contemporary Art was established by OMA to bring new recognition to the most progressive artists in the state. Each year, OMA’s curatorial team surveys artists working throughout Florida before selecting a group whose practices reflect the breadth, urgency and originality of contemporary art being made today. The 2026 exhibition continues that legacy while expanding its scale and ambition. Artists in this year’s lineup range from emerging to established voices and work across painting, installation, photography, sculpture, assemblage, weaving, performance and large-scale immersive environments. Their works invite audiences into rich visual worlds that are both deeply personal and powerfully relatable.” Claeysen-Gleyzon co-curated the 2026 exhibition with associate curator Katherine Page, marking a new chapter for the museum’s signature contemporary art survey. Page joined OMA in December 2025, bringing a fresh perspective to the continued evolution of the Florida Prize. Discover the latest news and updates from the attractions in Central Florida, including Fun Spot America, Gatorland, Island H2O Water Park, WonderWorks Orlando, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, Crayola Experience, ICON Park, Wild Florida, Kennedy Space Center Visitors Center, and more. OMA aims to create immersive experiences that extend beyond the gallery walls and foster meaningful connections with contemporary art. Before the opening of the exhibition, a ticketed preview party will be held on Friday, May 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. During the event, one artist will be awarded the $20,000 Florida Prize, chosen by this year’s invited juror Jade Powers, The Hugh Kaul Curator of Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art . This event will also showcase the culinary talents of local restaurants and caterers. Each participating chef will create a dish inspired by and paired with one of the Florida Prize artists or duos. In addition, guests will also be invited to vote all summer long for their favorite artist to earn the People’s Choice Award, which carries a $2,500 prize. - Check out the limited-time Life-Size Doll Box Photo Op's at Disney Springs
The photo-op is to celebrate Disney’s new Classic Doll box packaging, which is 100% plastic-free. Larger-than-life Rapunzel and Tiana Classic Doll box installations have arrived at Disney Springs — and yes, guests can actually step inside them. But the best part? This is a photo op with purpose. The life-size displays are inspired by Disney’s new Classic Doll box packaging, which is 100% plastic-free . In fact, the new packaging design will help avoid the use of over 110,000 pounds of plastic per year. That’s equal to the weight of about 11 elephants (compared to the 2020 packaging design)! Now through April 26, guests are invited to channel their inner princess and step inside this life-size doll box experience at Disney Springs, just in time for Earth Month. This immersive photo moment gives Disney Springs guests the chance to become the star of the story. They can pose solo, snap a photo with friends and family, or even capture a magical moment with the help of Disney PhotoPass. And the magic doesn’t stop there. The dolls featured in the installation are available just next door at Once Upon a To y . The new plastic-free packaging is available for Disney’s Classic Dolls at select Disney stores and Disney Parks locations in North America and on DisneyStore.eu and DisneyStore.com.au . Not only do the updated boxes help Disney avoid the use of plastic; they are also made from certified, sustainably sourced paper. “At Disney, we always start with the story — creating authentic character experiences that resonate with guests and fans. Our packaging is where that story begins. With our Classic Doll packaging, we saw an opportunity to rethink the guest experience through the lens of both sustainability and design. The new Classic Doll packaging reflects a more holistic approach — eliminating plastic, reducing material use, and bringing back direct visibility to the doll,” said Stefanie Majoras, Vice President of Global Merchandise Sourcing and Supply Chain Optimization at Disney. This is just one step in Disney's journey, all part of their ongoing efforts to take meaningful and measurable action to support a healthier planet for people and wildlife, a commitment they call Disney Planet Possible. More dolls and products will continue to roll out with reduced-plastic and plastic-free packaging in the future. Plastic-free packaging is now available for Classic Dolls across 15 Disney characters, including: Elsa, Anna, Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Merida, Moana, Mulan, Pocahontas, Rapunzel, Snow White, Tiana, and Tinker Bell — with even more characters coming later this year. “This is just one project in a focused ongoing effort to develop packaging solutions with efficiency and sustainability at the forefront of design efforts,” said Steven Saco, Technical Packaging & Supply Chain Engineering at Disney. This Earth Month, this larger-than-life photo moment is one example of how Disney is working to reduce waste and create more sustainable products and experiences. The’re also celebrating the Disney Conservation Fund’s 30th anniversary by spotlighting 30 of Disney’s biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability stories. Get ready—one of the most unique aircraft in the world is flying into Lakeland and will be on static display all week! The Aero Spacelines Super Guppy is headed to SUN ‘n FUN 2026, and it’s unlike anything else on the field. With its massive, bulbous fuselage and swing-open nose, this aircraft was built to carry cargo that simply won’t fit in a normal airplane. Originally designed to transport rocket components for NASA’s Apollo missions, the Super Guppy still plays a critical role today—moving oversized spacecraft parts, massive structures, and even aircraft components across the country. And yes… it’s so big, it can carry jet parts—and even small aircraft—inside its enormous cargo bay. NASA’s Northrop T-38 Talon will be part of the week’s activities! The aircraft will remain on static display Wednesday through Saturday, giving guests a rare up-close look at the jet NASA uses to train astronauts and support mission readiness—before departing on Sunday. The North American F-100 Super Sabre is a swept wing supersonic jet fighter that served with the US Air Force from 1954 to 1971 and the Air National Guard until 1979. See it fly at SUN 'n FUN Wednesday at Twilight, Friday evening during the daytime airshow and Saturday evening at twilight. Red Bull’s “Pick and Flick” explodes onto the airshow with pure adrenaline—a daring twist on a classic stunt. An experimental Cessna tears low down the runway, locked in perfect sync with a speeding car. Then, right at show center and precisely 1,300 feet, they release—dropping into freefall in a perfectly timed moment that launches Red Bull’s portion of the show. It’s a high-speed fusion of precision, timing, and trust that delivers an unforgettable aerial spectacle. NORAD is a bi-national United States and Canadian organization that was established on May 12, 1958. It is the first line of defense in protecting the United States and Canada from attack from all approaches through aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning for North America. During the airshow, NORAD pilots will demonstrate how they respond when a general aviation aircraft enters a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR). This performance showcases the same graduated, safety‑focused procedures NORAD uses in real-world situations to get a pilot’s attention. Spectators will see fighter aircraft rock their wings as well as perform a controlled “head‑butt” maneuver by safely crossing in front of the suspect aircraft. Each action is designed to clearly signal the pilot and guide the aircraft away from restricted airspace. Throughout the demonstration, NORAD crews will also simulate radio calls to show how they work to establish communication during an actual intercept. SUN ’n FUN will welcome the Freedom 250 F-5 Team. Led by Jared Isaacman, this striking three-ship formation features F-5's specially painted in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. Bold, patriotic, and impossible to miss, they’ll bring high-speed precision and powerful symbolism to the skies over Lakeland.
