As Hurricane Milton continues to rapidly intensify over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the storm has strengthened into a powerful Category 5 storm with winds of 180 mph. Ahead of the storm Walt DIsney World continues to make operational adjustments.
The growing threat of a major hurricane making landfall in Florida's west coast is now a worryingly real possibility.
Even more dire is that the odds of the storm tearing into or near Tampa, causing devastating damage as it tears through the I-4 corridor into Greater Orlando are growing by the hour.
As the situation develops, Walt Disney World has announced numerous accommodation closures across the resort.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will temporarily close beginning at 11am on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are likely to remain closed until Sunday, Oct. 13
The Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will likely reopen on Friday, Oct. 11.
This will probably be the forerunner to Walt Disney World closing its theme parks in the days ahead.
Already many area theme parks and attractions have announced closures including Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, LEGOLAND Florida, Gatorland, and The Orlando Eye.
Major Hurricane Milton is forecast to make landfall along the Florida west coast Wednesday night. Hurricane conditions, especially in the form of frequent wind gusts, will be possible across much of east central Florida.
All of east central Florida is now under a Tropical Storm or Hurricane Watch or Warning.
We urge you to stay informed and stay safe as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida.
