Beyond Earth: Taking Arts & Culture to Space
Digital Adventure Theater – Level 2, 8:30pm
Keynote Presentation with Natasha Tsakos, Founder of Space Wonders
Discover what happens to the human body, and to art itself, when gravity disappears. Every movement ever performed on a stage was negotiated with gravity. This winter, showmaker Natasha Tsakos and her team of performers, cinematographers, and scientists will board a parabolic aircraft to create PARABOLES, the first choreographed multimedia performance in microgravity, in partnership with MIT Space Exploration Initiative. She will share how you rehearse the unrehearsable (underwater, in harnesses, in VR, on aerobatic flights), what weightlessness reveals about the brain and body, 22 seconds at a time, and why culture belongs aboard the rockets.
Followed by moderated discussion between Natasha and Dr. Phil Metzger, Director of The Hawking Center, moderated by Florencia Franceschetti, Journalist & Managing Director, TogetherWith, followed by audience Q&A.
