The historic Plaza Live spire is back up, lit, and spinning, which means renovations to The Plaza Live on Bumby Avenue are almost complete.
The Plaza Live, one of Orlando’s oldest theaters has been undergoing extensive renovation since last year to the tune of $10 million.
The renovation project which began in June 2023, has been funded in part by the Orange County Tourist Development Tax, and is bringing significant enhancements to the venue, improving the overall experience for its patrons and performers alike.
Renovations include upgrades to the venue's infrastructure, including a new sound system, lighting, and stage equipment. The seating area has undergone a redesign to improve sightlines and provide greater comfort for audiences, and the lobby is being updated to provide a more welcoming and functional space for patrons.
As part of the renovations, the historic spire that sits atop the N. Bumby Avenue building was removed, and has undergone extensive refurbishment to restore the iconic landmark's original beauty and preserve its historical significance.
Now restored to its original glory, the spire has been returned to its rightful place atop the venue's roof, and best of all the spire is now illuminated with LED lighting, and is once again spinning!
On Wednesday, Jan 10. Mayor Dyer and commissioners Patty Sheehan and Jim Gray attended a ceremony, where the spire was activated for the first time since the renovation, and with the historic spire back up and now lit, the renovations to The Plaza Live are almost complete.
Hopefully it won't be long before the Orlando community can return soon for a show!
