This month’s event gives visitors a full day of free programming from 10 am - 8 pm.

The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) has announced its August Access for All event, opening its doors with free museum admission from 10 am to 8 pm. The monthly program, made possible through support from the Art Bridges Foundation, is part of OMA's ongoing effort to make art accessible to every visitor, regardless of cost. Guests are invited to spend the day in the galleries, take part in family-friendly programming, and connect with original works from OMA's collection and current exhibitions.

“Every family that walks through our doors on Access for All should feel like this museum belongs to them,” said Cathryn Mattson, CEO of OMA. “Removing the cost of admission and extending our hours, even for a single day each month, opens the door for people who might not otherwise have the chance to visit.”

This Access for All event marks visitors’ final chance to vote for their favorite installation in the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art exhibition to choose the People’s Choice winner, presented by AdventHealth. The annual exhibition celebrating Florida artists has been on display since May 30, bringing guests closer to Florida-based artists throughout the summer. The exhibition will conclude on August 23.

The August 20 Access for All schedule includes:

  • 2:30 p.m. | Gallery Talk

    • Museum-goers can join OMA's curatorial team for an informal look at works on view, including selections from the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art exhibition.

  • 4 p.m. | Magnificent Aurora Fallen To Earth

    • An immersive play written by Florida Prize artist Mette Tommerup, performed by Phantasmagoria Unplugged, in the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art exhibition.

  • 5-7 p.m. | Sketching in the Galleries

    • Sketching materials will be available for visitors of all ages who want to draw inspiration from the museum's galleries throughout the evening.

  • 5:30 p.m. | Magnificent Aurora Fallen To Earth

    • A second performance of Florida Prize artist Mette Tommerup’s immersive play by Phantasmagoria Unplugged.

  • 7 p.m. | Highlights Tour

    • A docent will lead guests on a highlights tour of the collection, offering family-friendly conversation starters from gallery to gallery.

  • By 8 p.m. | Last opportunity to vote for the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art People’s Choice Award, which will be announced Friday, August 21.

Guests are also encouraged to view the museum’s current exhibitions, including the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, Echoes of the Ancient in Contemporary Voices, and other permanent collection exhibitions. OMA also recently unveiled USA 250: 250 Years on the Road to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

“We've loved watching visitors connect with the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, and it's hard to believe this year’s exhibition is nearing its end,” said Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon, chief curator at OMA. “This Access for All day will be one of the last chances to see the exhibition before it closes on August 23.”

In addition to free admission and extended hours, Access for All day will include guided tours and engaging gallery activities, giving visitors the chance to connect with art in meaningful ways. Everyone is invited to join and experience the beauty and inspiration of art in a welcoming environment.
