Mattel is planning to open indoor water parks in multiple locations across the U.S. including Orlando, with attractions based on beloved Mattel brands including Barbie and Hot Wheels.

Mattel, the global toy and family entertainment company and owner of one of the most iconic brand portfolios in the world, announced back in November 2025 that it was planning to open multiple Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks, a series of "experiential aquatic destinations" featuring Mattel’s beloved brands, including Barbie and Hot Wheels.
The ambitious plan is for five waterparks to be built across the U.S.,with a location in Orlando set to be the first to be built. and while no timeline has been revealed, plans are moving forward for the Orlando location with permits already filed with Orange County.
The recently filed permit shows that the proposed water park will be located just off State Road 535, on a plot of vacant land next door to Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores.
The plans are impressive, with a 95,000-square-foot indoor water park featuring a retractable roof, something this will be unique to Central Florida, and will allow the attraction to remain open during thunderstorms, and for days in winter when temperatures dip and other area water parks traditionally have to close.
The water park would also include lazy rivers and water slides extending outside the building before returning indoors, together with a huge wave pool at the heart of the attraction, and a near 100 feet wave tower.
Plus, it's not just a water park that Mattel is planning to build on the more than 13 acres site, with proposals for a 45,000-square-foot entertainment complex, and an on-site hotel and restaurant, with parking for nearly 900 cars.
Mattel is developing the new waterparks in partnership with aquatic design firm Martin Aquatic, waterpark management firm American Resort Management, and in collaboration with developer I-dentity Group.
Martin Aquatic, whose global portfolio spans large-scale resorts such as the award-winning Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay, Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay, and The Ritz-Carlton Naples, as well as cruise-ship waterparks, will lead the concept-to-engineering design of the aquatic experiences.
American Resort Management, a proven leader in high-volume resort and entertainment operations including Epic Waters and Wild Rivers, will oversee sustainable day-to-day performance and guest-flow optimization, while I-dentity Group will craft the guest journey through themed signage, spatial storytelling, and immersive environment décor.
We can expect more details to be officially announced as work on the new Orlando water park progresses.
