Orlando Museum of Art opens free to everyone on Thursday, July 16 for its monthly Access for All day

The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) announces its July Access for All event, opening its doors with free museum admission from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Presented with support from the Art Bridges Foundation, the program is the cornerstone of OMA's effort to remove cost as a barrier to experiencing art. The event offers visitors a chance to explore the galleries, connect with original works, and take part in programming designed for all ages, free of charge.

"Access for All is a clear expression of our mission at the Orlando Museum of Art," said Cathryn Mattson, CEO of OMA. "We want every member of our community to feel that this museum belongs to them, and days like this make that a reality."

The July 16 Access for All event will include the following schedule:

10:30-11:30 am - Here / Hier: Finding Home Through Art and Movement – workshop with Florida Prize artist Maria Theresa Barbist

Guests will explore identity, belonging, and the body as a compass in this workshop filled with writing, drawing, and movement. The event is inspired by the painted works of Maria Theresa Barbist, whose work is on view in the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art exhibition.

1:30-3:30 pm - Catching God’s Eyes – workshop with Florida Prize artist Charo Oquet

Artist and researcher Charo Oquet will lead a hands-on exploration of Rara/Gaga, the vibrant Haitian and Dominican carnival tradition. Visitors will have the opportunity to view a Rara documentary, create a Rara hat, flag, or collar with colorful fabrics and found materials, and join a vibrant procession through the museum.

2:30 pm - Gallery Talk

Museum-goers can join the museum curator for an informal exploration of the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art exhibition.

5-7 pm - Sketching in the Galleries

Drawing and sketching supplies will be available for artists of all ages. Museum goers can enjoy an evening at the museum and be inspired by artwork in the galleries.

7 pm - Highlights Tour

This docent-led tour provides opportunities for meaningful conversations with the entire family. Follow along with a docent as they take you from gallery to gallery, highlighting various works.

Guests are also encouraged to view the museum’s current exhibitions, including the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, Echoes of the Ancient in Contemporary Voices, and other permanent collection exhibitions.

“Access for All continues to be one of the most meaningful days on our calendar," said Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon, chief curator at OMA. "It's a chance for our community to spend time with the art, ask questions, and explore the museum. Summer is an especially great time for us to welcome local families and students while they explore all that Orlando has to offer before returning to school."

In addition to free admission, Access for All events offer guided tours and engaging gallery activities, giving visitors the chance to connect with art in diverse and meaningful ways. Everyone is invited to join and experience the beauty and inspiration of art in a welcoming and inclusive setting.
