Orlando comes out on top as the best large city to start a business in the country

In news that comes as no surprise to anyone who has moved to Orlando to start a business, Orlando has been named Wallethub 2023 Best Large Cities to Start a Business.

The top four spots were all taken by cities here in Florida, with Orlando edging out Jacksonville into second spot, with Miami in third spot, and Tampa in fourth.

Wallethub used a number of factors to compile the list, comparing startup opportunities that exist in the top 100 U.S. cities across three key areas: Business Environment, Access to Resources, and Business Costs.

They factored in 19 different metrics, from 5 year business survival rates, to the length of average work week, office-space affordability, cost of labor, and cost of living.

The news comes as Mayor Buddy Dyer designated April 30 to May 6 as National Small Business Week here in the City of Orlando.

Dyer commented "National Small Business Week gets underway today, but I think that in our community, we celebrate small businesses every day. I also think that Orlando being named the "Best Large City to Start a Business" in the country by WalletHub is worth celebrating.

Small businesses are vital to the vibrancy of our community. They create jobs and add to our quality of life by offering residents and visitors unique goods, services and experiences. When we shop and eat small, we help our neighbors, friends and fellow Orlando residents who own their own business. These small business owners are people like Shannon Ligon of Pretty Smart Law, who’s expanded her brand by opening PrettySMART Studios downtown, Hardik Shah of Urban Turban and Ian Russell and Juliana Peña, who recently opened a brick and mortar location for Smoke & Donuts. Orlando’s small business owners and their employees have great energy and passion for what they do and deserve our collective support."
