October at the History Center features LGBTQ+ History, Florida’s Natural World, and Spooky Fun!
Events happening at the History Center during the month of October includes their most anticipated event of the year: Trick or Treat Safe Zone!
During October, the Orange County Regional History Center in downtown Orlando presents an exciting selection of programs, ranging from LGBTQ+ history to family-friendly Halloween-season events.
The month opens with a Lunch & Learn tracing Orlando’s LGBTQ+ history through the unexpected lens of citrus and a History Alive day devoted to Florida’s natural world.
Later events include the popular family-friendly Trick or Treat Safe Zone and a sensory-friendly edition, both on Sunday afternoons.
The month wraps up with a fun, adults-focused History After Dark evening inspired by a sensational 1920s Orlando murder case.

Lunch & Learn: Orlando’s Blossoming LGBTQ+ History
Friday, October 2, 2026, Noon – 1 p.m.
Modern Orlando boasts a bustling LGBTQ+ scene, but its history goes back much further than Pride festivals and rainbow crosswalks. Join Cheyenne Stastyshyn, the History Center’s public programs coordinator, for a journey through Orlando’s LGBTQ+ past told through an unexpected lens: citrus.
Cost: Free for History Center Members; General Public $5. Cost with lunch: $12 for History Center
Members; General Public $17. (Lunch must be ordered by 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 1.)

History Alive: Florida’s Natural World
Saturday, October 3, 2026, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Journey through Florida’s wild and wondrous natural history as you explore prehistoric landscapes, early human ingenuity, and the sometimes bizarre creatures that still call Central Florida home. From towering mammoths to mysterious swamp dwellers, Florida’s environment has shaped life here for thousands of years. Uncover ancient artifacts, test your knowledge of local wildlife, and celebrate the natural forces that make Orlando truly extraordinary.

Trick or Treat Safe Zone
Saturday, October 11, 2026, Noon – 4 p.m.
Get ready for a spooktacular afternoon of trick-or-treating, entertainment, games, and family-
friendly Halloween fun! With sweet treats and just the right amount of spooky, the museum transforms into a fun adventure for all ages. Visitors can explore the galleries with a Halloween scavenger hunt and candy stations, with trick-or-treat bags provided. Outside in Heritage Square Park, enjoy WeFlip Entertainment’s acrobatics and stunts, plus crafts, games, activities, and vendors.
Costumes are encouraged. Come have fun with us. Trick or Treat Safe Zone is supported by
Universal Orlando Foundation and Orange County Library System.
Sensory Sunday: Black Cats & Bats
Sunday, October 18, 2026, Noon – 4 p.m.
Step into our annual Halloween Sensory Sunday, a sensory-friendly version of our Trick or Treat Safe Zone. Themed activities and free trick-or-treating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Costumes are encouraged, and trick-or-treat bags will be provided. Our Sensory Sundays offer a welcoming experience for guests with autism spectrum disorder and sensory sensitivities.
Accommodations include reduced exhibit audio and lighting effects, a social narrative, noise- reducing earmuffs, sensory tools, a quiet space, and hands-on activities throughout the museum.
Admission for Sensory Sundays is free through the support of Orlando Health Children’s.

History After Dark: San Juan Speakeasy
Friday, October 30, 2026, 5 – 9 p.m.
Step back into 1920s Orlando for an after-hours evening inspired by a sensational murder case at the San Juan Hotel. Follow clues through the museum in a “Wild Swan Chase” scavenger hunt while enjoying live performances, courtroom reenactments, guided tours, vintage games, trivia, and other activities throughout the galleries. Complete the scavenger hunt to discover a hidden speakeasy, and enjoy themed food and drinks available for purchase.
This adults-focused evening offers a lively way to explore Orlando history after dark.
