It appears that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis does not like a taste of his own medicine as he claims Walt Disney World suing him is political!
Yesterday, Thursday, April 27, after siting back and taking hit after hit from from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Disney finally sucker punched the Governor and filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida.against DeSantis and his puppets at The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors
It appears the governor is none too impressed and has called the move by Dienypolitica , which is rich coming from a man that is posturing against Disney in a weak attempt to bolster his standing among the Republican Party as he prepares to make a run for the Republican nomination for President.
During a press conference in Jerusalem today, Thursday, April 27, which is part of the Governor's “international trade mission,” (Another move to bolster his chances of gaining the Republican nomination for President) DeSantis said, “I don’t think the suit has merit, I think it’s political. I think they filed in Tallahassee for a reason because they’re trying to generate some district court decision."
In its lawsuit, Disney alleged that DeSantis and other officials engaged in a “targeted campaign of government retaliation” after the company publicly opposed a state law that aimed to ban the discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation in classrooms up to third grade. DeSantis’ signing the legislation, which critics call “Don’t Say Gay,” last year.
In pursuing the lawsuit, Disney say that they have been "forced to defend itself against a State weaponizing its power to inflict political punishment."
The lawsuits states that “Disney regrets that it has come to this, but having exhausted efforts to seek a resolution, the Company is left with no choice but to file this lawsuit to protect its cast members, guests, and local development partners from a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials.”
Also, in the lawsuit Disney says it's fortunate to have resources to battle the State’s retaliation for simply offering a different opinion to that of the Governor over his "Don't Say Gay" Bill, they say "smaller businesses and individuals might not be able to take when the State comes after them for expressing their own views. In America, the government cannot punish you for speaking your mind."
