For more than a century, the Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) has stood as a vibrant cultural anchor for Central Florida—an institution built by the community, for the community.
Founded in 1924 and recently celebrating its 100th anniversary, OMA is the region’s flagship independent art museum, distinguished not only by the depth of its collections but by its unwavering commitment to accessibility, learning, and creative exploration.
Demonstrating its longstanding dedication to excellence, OMA has been continuously accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) since 1971, a mark of national recognition held by only a small percentage of museums in the United States.
Each year, the museum presents 10–12 on‑site exhibitions alongside an equal number of off‑site projects, offering fresh and compelling encounters with art across a wide range of perspectives and time periods. Its permanent collection of more than 3,300 works—spanning Contemporary Art, American Art from the 18th century to 1945, the Art of the Ancient Americas, and African Art—anchors OMA’s role as a steward of culturally and historically significant works.
As “the people’s museum” of Central Florida, OMA welcomes over 150,000 visitors annually, drawing audiences from across the state, nationally, and internationally. Its robust education programs reach more than 20,000 learners each year through workshops for adults and children, gallery talks, teacher training, art camps, and specialized initiatives designed for individuals with autism, breast cancer survivors, people experiencing dementia, and those with limited vision. These efforts reflect OMA’s founding mission: to stimulate creativity and intellectual curiosity by connecting people of all backgrounds and experiences with art and new ideas.
In 2024, a three‑year Art Bridges grant expanded this spirit of openness, allowing the museum to offer free extended‑hours days each month featuring performances, interactive activities, a semi‑monthly collaborative film series, and opportunities for first‑time visitors to experience the collection.
Rooted in its history yet energized by forward‑thinking programs and partnerships, the Orlando Museum of Art continues to shape the artistic landscape of the region—cultivating connection, inspiring imagination, and championing the essential role of art in everyday life.
