By Heart and By Hand at the History Center is a powerful celebration of artistry, heritage, and community, showcasing the work of Black craft artists across Central Florida. Rooted in traditions passed down through generations, the special exhibition explores how contemporary makers draw on ancestral knowledge, family stories, and cultural practices to create works that are both deeply personal and widely resonant.

Floridiana: Vintage Treasures & Oddities From The Sunshine State is organized by the Orlando Museum of Art. Florida has long been a place of escape, and the souvenirs visitors took home during its mid-century heyday—hotel ashtrays, rubber alligators, roadside attraction brochures—embodied memories of carefree days in the Sunshine State. These vernacular objects, often decorative, utilitarian, or absurd, offer an unfiltered glimpse into a time when Florida’s identity was shaped by tourism and fantasy. The exhibition presents over 130 objects from the collection of Gary Monroe.
July 24 - January 3
Explore the history and enduring legacy of colonialism in the Caribbean through The House That Freedoms Built, an outdoor installation by artist La Vaughn Belle on the Rollins College campus. Featuring three white, pitched-roof structures inspired by 18th-century homes built by formerly enslaved people of St. Croix, the work invites reflection on how ideas of home, belonging, and freedom are constructed. As the first in a series of installations leading to the opening of the Rollins Museum of Art’s new facility, it engages viewers in a thoughtful dialogue about identity, community, and the spaces we inhabit.

From its beginnings in 1876 as the Orange County Reporter, the Orlando Sentinel has grown alongside the city it serves. Today, as a three-time Pulitzer Prize–winning newspaper, it celebrates 150 years of journalism, community, and storytelling. To mark this milestone, the History Center presents Extra! Extra! The Orlando Sentinel Turns 150, a pocket exhibit showcasing photographs, archival materials, and artifacts from our collection that reflect the paper’s long presence in the region. This exhibit invites visitors to encounter original materials that highlight how the Sentinel has been read, experienced, and remembered across generations.

September 12 - December 12, Second Saturday Of Every Month
Orlando Science Center has announced the return of Cosmic Concerts! This limited time special event will premiere three laser light shows on the second Saturday of every month, beginning September 12 and running until December 12. Tickets to each laser light show are sold separately and are available for purchase online while quantities last. Seating is limited so these timed tickets guarantee your spot. Cosmic Concerts, a perennial favorite at OSC from late 70’s to the early 90’s, is officially back for a limited time! In the decades following the Second World War, artists continued developing new stylistic vocabularies, sustaining the Abstract Expressionist movement amid the rise and influence of Minimalism, Conceptualism, and Pop Art. In Color Fields and Inspirations at Orlando Museum of Art, works by acclaimed artists of the 1960s and 1970s invite an ongoing conversation that embraces intuition, experimentation, and reflection on materiality.

Represent: Contemporary Figuration and Portraiture from the Collection presents a selection of some of the most compelling and diverse portraits among the Orlando Museum of Art collection, featuring the recent acquisition of a Kandy G Lopez textile, Hispaniola II – Mia (2024) and the gift of David LaChapelle photograph The Annunciation , Hawaii (2019).

USA 250: 250 Years on the Road to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness is an exhibition presented across two galleries at OMA. Drawing from the Collection of the Orlando Museum of Art, it is envisioned as a road trip across the United States, trailing significant historical points of view where artists have recognized, responded to, or documented changing human experiences. The earliest painting presented hails from the late 19th-century Hudson River School and is displayed alongside works across media that extend into our contemporary era.

If you go down to the woods this spooky season you're in for a horrific surprise... Scream-A-Geddon in Dade City is spread across 20 acres in a remote corner of Pasco County. The scariest of horror parks, Scream-A-Geddon Horror Park offers five haunted houses, a zombie paintball fight, plus monsters who can and will grab you! Plus, new for 2026 is Bonzo's Bizzar, featuring food, drinks, and chaos. Scream-A-Geddon is only a miserable 1 hour, 30 minute drive from Orlando, and it is so worth it, if you dare...

The Ren's annual spooky season production is back for 2026, with Nosferatu: The Citadel! You'll see the full Nosferatu experience at 8 pm, and end the night in VBar beginning at 10 pm. You'll be moving from space to space in the Citadel, seeing different stories unfold. Nosferatu is an immersive experience. Vampires will be moving all around you!

Halloween Horror Nights returns to Universal Studios Florida for its 35th anniversary on select nights, August 28 through November 1, transforming Universal Studios Florida into a decrepit, fear‑fueled carnival featuring a sinister new slate of haunted houses, scare zones and outrageous entertainment inspired by elements from Halloween Horror Nights’ history plus some of the biggest names in horror. And the ringmasters of this year’s event will be none other than Jack the Clown – arguably the most notorious Halloween Horror Nights icon in history – and his legendary rival, Dr. Oddfellow. Halloween Horror Nights 35 will mark the first time that these nemeses join forces to wreak havoc amongst guests…after all – a fear divided is a fear diluted…

Taking place Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 19 through Nov. 1, the experience is included with aquarium admission.

This year Brevard Zoo in Melbourne is hosting an evening after-hours Halloween event, with the zoo transformed into a spooky playground filled with eerie lights, mysterious sounds and hauntingly fun surprises. Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld Orlando is a separately ticketed event is built for the brave, featuring spine-tingling scare zones, menacing haunted houses, electrifying live shows, and heart-pounding thrill rides in the dark. This year, Howl-O-Scream will take place on select evenings from September 11 through October 31 and will feature 5 haunted houses with 4 all-new houses, 6 scare zones, and more.

When the sun goes down at Showcase of Citrus in Clermont, the Monster Trucks take a much darker turn. The Haunted Monster Truck Ride is returning for the 2026 Halloween season, taking brave riders on an after-dark adventure through a world of monsters, creatures, scares, and Halloween surprises. Climb aboard one of the massive Monster Trucks and venture into the darkness as the familiar Florida countryside transforms into something altogether different.

Join Showcase of Citrus Pumpkin Ponderosa located at 5010 US-27, Clermont to pick your perfect pumpkin, take great family photos, and enjoy various activities! Burn off steam on the playground, take a hayride or even a haunted monster truck ride. Their mostly shaded attractions are in full swing for pumpkin season. The Magical Maze has thirteen scary monster pictures hidden throughout…find them all and win a prize! The giant culvert slide, barrel train rides, trike track, duck races and so much more are available in the Jolly Acres play area. Jack’s Barnyard petting zoo is the place to visit with all of their farm animal friends, and experience some of the animals up close in the animal encounter areas. This Halloween you can experience a spooky adventure by land, water, and fear! This is not a traditional haunted house. The Terror 2 at Boggy Creek takes guests from the dark swamps into a breached containment zone through a nighttime airboat ride, haunted military transport, haunted trail, and optional interactive fight for survival. Located in Kissimmee, The Terror 2 at Boggy Creek combines a nighttime Florida airboat ride, haunted military truck tour, haunted trail, and optional Survive the Swamp blaster arena for a one-of-a-kind Central Florida Halloween experience.

As the sun begins to set, the preserve at Amazing Animals comes to life! Join us for a magical evening filled with unforgettable animal encounters, including a special visit with our capybara family. A limited number of guests will kick off the evening with a complimentary sun-downer drink during check-in, where you’ll also have the chance to mingle with some of our beloved animal ambassadors. From there, we’ll take a leisurely stroll through the preserve, making stops along the way to see many of our residents. Histories in Thread: Honoring Heirlooms in Contemporary Quilting at the History Center brings together seven nationally and internationally recognized textile artists whose work explores creativity, culture, identity, and family history. Using fabric as both medium and storyteller, the artists demonstrate how quilting traditions can preserve the past, speak to the present, and help shape the future. The exhibition features techniques including piecing, embroidery, and origami-inspired folding techniques that create three-dimensional forms. Several works incorporate adinkra – symbols developed by the Akan people of present-day Ghana to express proverbs, values, and beliefs.
