Dr. Phillips Center launches first Florida Musical Theatre Intensive for the top High School Performers

Florida Musical Theatre Intensive brings Florida’s most talented young performers together for two immersive weeks of professional-level training, culminating in a fully staged production at Dr. Phillips Center.

Designed as the first program of its kind in Florida, Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts launches the inaugural Florida Musical Theatre Intensive(FMTI), a two-week pre-professional program bringing together Florida's top high-school performers, happening from June 14-28, 2026.

The program expands the art center’s growing arts education pipeline, which includes the Applause Awards and year-round training through AdventHealth School of the Arts.

The all-inclusive program covers all classes, rehearsals, masterclasses, housing, meals, special events, community activities and full production costs including performances on a professional stage. Scholarships are available for qualified students and will be considered as part of the audition and acceptance process.

“This intensive reflects where we are headed—expanding our space and access to arts training across the state,” said Kathy Ramsberger, President & CEO of Dr. Phillips Center.

Students will train in voice, dance, acting and audition technique through a conservatory-style curriculum at Dr. Phillip Center’s AdventHealth School of the Arts, collaborating with industry professionals and creative staff. The program culminates in a fully staged production of West Side Story inside the award-winning concert venue, Steinmetz Hall.

“Dr. Phillips Center continues to grow as a hub for musical theatre training and opportunity in Florida. We see incredible talent come through AdventHealth School of the Arts and programs like Applause Awards,” said Ryan Simpson, education director at Dr. Phillips Center. “We’re proud to offer young artists new opportunities to gain professional experience from the rehearsal process to the final curtain call, giving students a clear vision of what it takes to build a career on stage.”

Admission is by video audition, with 60 students selected to participate. Applicants must be Florida residents entering their sophomore year through graduating seniors who share a passion for musical theatre. Previous performance experience is recommended but not required. The program seeks dedication, curiosity and a willingness to learn.

Scholarship opportunities are available and are based on financial need, strong interest and/or exceptional talent in the performing arts.
