There is always something new to see at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the next time you visit be on the lookout for the latest additions to the theme park.

Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment team have announced the arrival of two rare twin cotton-top tamarin monkeys that were born just over a week ago.

The critically endangered monkeys are the first to be born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom since 2001. The twins are approximately four inches long, and weigh about the same as a chicken egg!

The adorable twins can be found in heir habitat near Creature Comforts, clinging tightly to their mom and dad as they leap from branch to branch.

As infants, they are dependent on their parents for survival for up to the first 14 weeks.

Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment team commented, "As first-time parents, both mom and dad are doing great, sharing the parenting duties."

The birth of the twins is one example of Disney's partnership with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Species Survival Plan.

The survival plan is to help ensure the future of endangered species such as the cotton-top tamarins who are critically endangered, with less than 7,500 remaining in the wild due to the illegal pet trade and extensive deforestation and loss of habitat.

Found in the tropical forests of Colombia, cotton-top tamarins are some of the smallest primates in the world. Experts say they’re easily some of the most recognizable monkeys due to their long white hairs that extend from their forehead to their shoulders.
