Disney Dreamers Academy wraps 19th Year with Dazzling Celebrations at Walt Disney World Resort

Student's experienced a wide range of transformative experiences at Walt Disney World Resort.

Disney Dreamers Academy concluded its 19th year Saturday at Walt Disney World Resort with a closing celebration thatincluded surprise opportunities for several of the 100 high school students selected for this year’s class.

Micaela La Serna of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, will travel to Hollywood, California, for the premiere of Malia Baker’s upcoming film, “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland,” after receiving a personal invitation from Baker, the film’s star and the program’s DREAMbassador.
Joshua Haynes of Southaven, Mississippi, was named Disney Dreamer of the Year and will return to Walt Disney World with his family for a vacation that includes a Disney Cruise Line voyage after being selected by his peers and judges.
Additional students also received opportunities. Kyla Decambre of Lawrenceville, Georgia, will take part in an educational trip with National Geographic to Washington, D.C. Melia Diaz of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kiana Lee of San Diego, California, will visit Dolby Studios in Hollywood to continue exploring career interests. Irene Pan of Fullerton, California, Claire Jefferson of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Scott Lenfesty of Cary, North Carolina, each received a $2,500 scholarship from Partners Credit Union to support their education.

The final day of the program brought together students, parents and chaperones for a closing celebration that included Disney entertainment, character appearances and an emotional pinning ceremony.

Throughout the multi-day program, students heard from celebrities, educators, business leaders, and community figures who shared advice and encouraged them to pursue their goals. Among the celebrities supporting the event onsite were stars such as A’ja Wilson (WNBA Superstar), JayDon (recording artist) and Rickey Smiley (The Rickey Smiley Morning Show), Baker and more.
The 100 students are selected from thousands of nationwide applicants and, along with a parent or guardian, received an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World to participate in the event. The impactful program introduces the Disney Dreamers to an array of new opportunities, such as sessions teaching valuable life tools, leadership skills, effective communication techniques and networking strategies.

Students experience interactive workshops in a variety of disciplines aligned with their dreams. These workshops introduce the Disney Dreamers to diverse career paths within business, entertainment and sciences, including career opportunities within The Walt Disney Company.
