MilkShake Factory began in 1914 as a small soda fountain and chocolate shop in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood. Charlie and Orania immigrated from Greece and opened their first chocolate shop and soda fountain. At the time, a milkshake was a true treat for the whole family. Home refrigeration was a luxury few could afford, so to savor the taste of ice cream, let alone the thick chill of a handmade milkshake, was cause for an excursion to a soda fountain.
MilkShake Factory grew into what is now Pittsburgh’s premier milkshake and chocolate destination with multiple retail locations around the Pittsburgh region. Using the family’s original ice cream and chocolate recipes, they serve handspun shakes, craft sundaes, and gourmet chocolates just as they did in 1914.
Today, MilkShake Factory is xpanding across the country via franchising, with the new Orlando location operated by father-and-son franchise partners Capt. Miller Johnson III and Miller Johnson IV, who have plans to open three MilkShake Factory locations across Central Florida.
