Calling all Space Rangers - The updated Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom soft opens!

Calling all Space Rangers! Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom has soft-opened following a multi-month update. The popular attraction now has updated ride vehicles, gameplay enhancements, and more!

The popular ride in Tomorrowland has been closed since August 4, 2025 to prepare for these updates, with Walt Disney World recently announcing that the revamped ride would reopen on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, but ahead of the reopening date, construction walls are now gone, and the attraction has soft opened this morning, Monday, March 30.

My Disney Experience still shows the attraction closed for refurbishment, but guests have been allowed to join the standby line and join Buzz Lightyear on an intergalactic mission aboard Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, where Star Command recruits are called upon to help save the galaxy from the evil Emperor Zurg.

A sign outside the atraction invites guests to, “Join us! Preview the recharged Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin before it official opens.” There is no standby wait time, plus Lightning Lane is not currently available.

After boarding upgraded ride vehicles, Space Rangers now meet Buddy, a new support bot who guides them through interactive target practice before launch.

From interactive targets that light up and respond when you hit them to new handheld blasters featuring an always-on laser along with enhanced lighting, sound, and vibration effects, Buddy is confident you’ll have everything you need to succeed.

When the mission is complete, returning Rangers will find new photo memories showcasing their scores — perfect for celebrating victory and a little friendly bragging rights.

Here’s more on what you can expect from this refreshed Tomorrowland attraction...

Brand New Scene

As your adventure begins, guests are greeted by an all-new character! This friendly robot — aptly named “Buddy” — was created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios to play a key role on the Star Command team.

As a support-bot, Buddy makes sure departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission, enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim. This is now a great time for guests to check out some of the new, interactive target features before blasting off to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg and save the galaxy.

New Ride Vehicles

Star cruisers have received a huge face lift with a new design inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command.

Each enhanced vehicle also come equipped with video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features.

Handheld Blasters

Each ride vehicle now includes handheld blasters for better aim, helping guests to score even more points. These new blasters are perfect for younger riders, allowing them to participate more in the experience.

And, if you’ve ever wondered where you’re aiming (don’t worry, you’re not alone), these enhanced blasters iclude an always-on laser and come in two different colors per star cruiser, in addition to new lighting, sound and vibration effects, so players know where they’re aiming throughout the mission.

Interactive Targets

The static Z targets found in the attraction before have been upgraded with new technology that allows them to react and light up when hit.

Star Command, over and out!
