Aerosmith is NOT being removed from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios in current refurb

As we predicted the current refurbishment at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney's Hollywood Studios is not expected to reveal any changed to the theming of the ride.

For several years there have been persistent rumours that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is to be re-themed, and in the last few months those rumours have reached fever point due to the controversy in the news surrounding frontman Steven Tyler, and the fact that the ride was going down for a lengthy refurbishment.

While we do believe that Aerosmiths days are numbered, for now Aerosmith appear to be safe...

The ride closed in late February, but Disney have not revealed a reopening date, but it is expected to be sometime in the summer of this year.

At the time of the rides closure, Disney said that there would be no changes to the guest experience as a result of this routine refurbishment.

And now, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Cast Members are believed to have been told by park management that the attraction will be re-opening with no changes to the rides theming, seemingly confirming that the ride will reopen as is, with guests still catching a limo to race through LA to an Aerosmith concert.

Most recent rumours have speculated that Aerosmith could be replaced with Queen, and we do actually think that this would be a good fit, imagine launching to Don't Stop Me Now, before looping into the crazy section of Bohemian Rhapsody!

While little detail is know of the actual refurbishment, filed permits appear to put a timeframe on the refurbishment, and the scope of the work.

The first permit is from Maddox Electric, who listed the work on the coaster as general electrical work, but the interesting thing about the permit is that Maddox overrode the standard one-year expiration date and said that the work needs to be completed by September 14, 2023.

The second permit is from a company called Adena and listed the work as general construction.

Interestingly, Adena are known for their work on rollercoaster, and have been contracted by Disney in the past, and have worked on Slinky Dog Dash, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and TRON Lightcycle Run.

Their involvement in the project likely suggests that track repairs and possibly some track replacement could be happening.

Again, the permit from Adena has had the one-year expiration date overridden for September like Maddox Electic's permit.

Only time will tell when the ride will change up its theming, all we do know is that Aerosmith can't go on forever and it is exciting to think that Queen will be the replacement!
