  • Senator Bernie Sanders calls out Disney for not paying its Cast Members a living wage

Here in Orlando, unions representing Walt Disney World Cast Members are currently embroiled in a battle with Disney management in an effort to win a living wage for Cast Members throughout the resort. Now, Senator Bernie Sanders has weighed in on the debate. going public via his Twitter account, calling out Disney for not paying Cast Members a living wage, while at the same time he called out former company CEO Bob Chapek for doing a "lousy" job! Senator Bernie Sanders pointed out that while Cast Members were struggling to pay rent or afford groceries, the company were able to pay "lousy" Bob Chapek, a $20 million payout for him to disappear quietly. Sanders urged Disney to pay Cast Members a living wage of at least $18 per hour. Here is the tweet from Senator Sanders which he posted early this morning. Walt Disney World Cast Members current contracts ended last October, and negotiations have been ongoing, with Disney returning to the negotiating table with unions yesterday, Wednesday, February 15, 2023 in the latest round of contract negotiations. Negotiations resumed following an overwhelming 96% rejection of Walt Disney World’s offer to gradually raise wages to $20 over the next few years by the Service Trades Council Union, who represent more than 45,000 Walt Disney World Cast Members, yet despite this, unbelievably Disney came back to the table with a WORSE offer than the one that Cast Members had rejected! Plus, this is happening at time when earlier this week, Universal Orlando announced it's raising its Team Members starting pay to $17 per hour, plus additional raises coming to current Team Members. In contrast, Disney’s current base rate of pay for Cast Members is $15 per hour. Read our article sharing our opinion on why Cast Members should be getting treated better by Disney! • Rumour is that Merida is being evicted from Magic Kingdom in favour of new Mirabel Meet and Greet

Mirable is very excited as she's just heard that Walt Disney World is planning to bring here to Magic Kingdom at a permanent meet and greet location in Magic Kingdom. The rumour on the cobblestones of Fantasyland is that bosses at Walt Disney World are looking to bring a Mirabel meet and greet to Magic Kingdom as soon as possible. The current plan is to shoehorn Mirable from the popular Encanto into the current Merida meet and greet area near the Castle, across from Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. According to those familiar with the project, Walt Disney World Disney have made it a priority to provide a Mirabel meet and greet, and have been planning to introduce the meet and greet since last year. While other locations have been discussed, the current plan it to evict Merida, and move Merida in, changing the theming of the location from Brave to Encanto, with the location opening later this year. Obviously this has to be considered a rumour until Walt Disney World officially announce it. • Sorry folks, 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is NOT reopening anytime soon!

This week Walt Disney World revealed that Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be reopening on April 1, which is wonderful news, but what about the fan-favorite 1900 Park Fare at the resort? Will we be able to delight in breakfast and dinner buffets, and enjoy a merry afternoon tea party with Disney Characters ANYTIME SOON? Sadly the answer is NO! The much loved character dining buffet location at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, will remain closed for refurbishment for the fordable future. The restaurant has been in a state of limbo since it closed in March 2020 together with the entire Walt Disney World Resort due to COVID-19. Walt Disney are remaining quiet on the restaurant, with no official update on when we can expect the location to reopen, all we do know is that the restaurant’s remodel IS happening alongside the renovations happening throughout the resort, and that it willl be updated to blend with the overall new look for the hotel. Unfortunately, right now the restaurant sits gathering dust, with no signs of a refurbishment happening anytime soon. When the refurbishment does begin, there is no telling how long it will last, so it looks like it will be awhile before we can enjoy a merry high tea! • As Disney Cast Members struggle to make rent, they can grab a discount on the Galactic Starcruiser

Walt Disney World have announced a Cast Member discount for the expensive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. This comes at a time when Disney are unwilling to offer Cast Members a living wage increase in ongoing contract negotiations with unions, with a union spokesperson stating that Disney are unwilling to even offer a one cent wage increase for Cast Members! Disney are currently engaged in a publicity charm offensive with the public, showering praise on Cast Members, saying how amazing they are, and that they are the magic, all the while refusing to give Cast Members a wage increase. In recent days Disney gifted a limited time 50% discount on Disney merchandise to Cast Members, and now the discount on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience. A voyage aboard the Galactic Starcruiser runs on average at $2,490 for two adults, $2,670 for two adults and one child, and $2,960 for three adults and one child. The Cast Member discount is roughly 50% off these prices. The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience is currently experiencing extremely low occupancy rates, and Disney have already offered discounts to Annual Passholders, and DVD members, and now it's the turn of Cast Members to be given a discount. The discount is roughly 50% off published prices for the experience. In order to be eligible, Disney employees or retirees must book and stay in the room. A company-issued ID will be required at check-in and the employee will be required to have the company-issued ID on their person throughout the cruise. The employee can bring up to 3 guests in one cabin. The Cast Member rate is only available for the standard cabin. The discounted Cast Member rates are available for select voyage dates from March through June. • Ricky Stenhouse Jr. celebrates winning his first Daytona 500 at Magic Kingdom with Mickey Mouse!

Daytona 500 winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. celebrated the biggest win of his career by accelerating straight to Walt Disney World from Daytona! Ricky spent today at Magic Kingdom Park, where he showed off his championship ring to his racing buddy, Mickey Mouse. It's pretty fair to say that Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has had a roller-coaster career in which he had to fight to keep a job, lost his seat at a NASCAR powerhouse team and opened his 14th season mired in a five-year losing streak. So winning Daytona 500 is a massive achievement, and a well deserved reward for Ricky's hard work, and determination to make it to the top! Stenhouse won the Daytona 500 in double overtime and under caution on Sunday in the longest running of "The Great American Race.'' The two overtimes pushed the 65th running of the event to a record 212 laps -- a dozen laps beyond the scheduled distance and a whopping 530 miles.
