Could Walt Disney World guests interact with the new attraction - Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, via MagicBand+?
Earlier this morning, ABC breakfast show, Good Morning America shared a surprise sneak peek at Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, the upcoming attraction currently under construction in the shadow of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT.
During the segment, Imagineer Reid Ekman commented that guests will be able to interact with various special effects in the walkthrough attraction, and it appears that it could possibly be via MagicBand+.
Ekman also said that music would be a major component and that there are about a dozen hidden characters in the walkthrough.
Although the Disney Imagineer didn’t specifically mention using MagicBand+ to interact with the attraction, he did describe the interactivity with the attraction, and it did sound similar to using MagicBand+.
Ekman commented that the experience will take guests along the journey of the water cycle and that guests will be able to “greet” the water by waving their hands, which sounds similar to the most recent interactive feature using MagicBand+ at Walt DisneyWorld, namely the 50th Anniversary statues.
We can only speculate that the interactivity will be via MagicBand+ , the imagineers could install technology that anyone could "wave" to engage with the interactive experiences, but with MagicBand+ an uncharge extra, the temptation for Disney to utilizie the technology to earn money for the company, while enhancing the guest experice, may be too much of a temptation for Disney management.
