Ranked as the 15th best disc golf state in United States, Florida is home to over 200 courses, and the popular outdoor activity has found a new home in Oviedo with the opening of a new 18-hole course.
The City of Oviedo Recreation and Parks Department has announced the opening of a new disc golf course in Riverwoods Park.
The disc golf course is an 18-hole course that was completed on April 26, 2024, allowing Riverwoods Park to re-open.
Crews spent months planning the engineering and design of the course. It winds through the beautiful natural landscape of Riverwoods Park, which is located in the heart of the Alafaya Woods subdivision at 1050 McCully Court.
It is a peaceful, quiet park that allows disc golfers convenience and serenity to play. Riverwoods Park is also open to the public to explore nature with open and free parking.
The disc golf course was part of a Florida Department of Environmental Protection FCT Management Plan and in 2020 a revision to the park was made to add the disc golf course, which was previously located in Shane Kelly Park.
In 2021, the city executed a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant agreement for $50,000 in non- city matching dollars. The grant included a new picnic facility, a disc golf course, an interpretive kiosk, a grant acknowledgment sign and complete landscaping. Thanks to the hard work of the parks and recreation staff, the vision of having a fully playable disc golf course came to fruition.
There is no cost to the public to come play disc golf and enjoy the park.
