In honor of Orlando’s 150th anniversary, the Orange County Regional History Center offers a glimpse into some of the most fascinating and rarely seen items from the city’s history with our newest special exhibition, Orlando Collected.

Dawoud Bey’s Evergreen depicts haunting images captured at the Evergreen Plantation of Wallace, Louisiana. Installed across three video channels, the work scans the grounds of the most intact plantation complex still standing in the United States. The work captures swaths of trees and the remnants of living quarters of the historically enslaved Black people.

The exhibition includes 100 watercolors by FWS members selected by a distinguished juror, award-winning watercolor artist, Matthew Bird, whose work has been featured in major art magazines.

Jason Chin (American, born 1978) has written and illustrated award winning children’s books, including Redwoods, Grand Canyon, and Your Place in the Universe. His paintings in Watercress, alongside storytelling by Andrea Wang, garnered a 2022 Caldecott Medal. With a love for scientific wonders, he has illuminated the mysteries of coral reefs, redwood trees, the Galápagos Islands, gravity, and the elemental particles that make us who we are.

Experience Contemporary (Myth and Storytelling) is a group exhibition of paintings, sculptures, and printed materials, featuring four contemporary Florida artists, curated by Justin Luper. The exhibit is on display at Casselberry Arts Center.

At Harvest Holler located at 950 Tavares Rd., Polk City, experience a real working family farm with animals, activities, corn maze and of course a pumpkin patch. The Fall Pumpkin Patch is the perfect spot for family fun and time with friends. With every admission, guests will receive one free pumpkin to take home. Little artists will love leaving their mark in the chalk barn, and the always-popular bunny barn is waiting for visits and cuddles. Busch Gardens Howl-O-Scream returns in full force, taking over the entire park with haunted houses, scare zones, sinister shows and more. This years after-hours event features more than 25 terrifying experiences including 2 NEW haunted houses, 3 NEW sinister scare zones, ghoulish shows and unrelenting park-wide horrors. This is Tampa Bay’s most frightening adult Halloween event.

Pumpkins at Santa’s Tree Farm located at 5317 Huff Road, Eustis are fresh picked, and then displayed in a shaded lot to help preserve their freshness. The one of a kind outdoor haunted attraction, Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail is a not-to-be-missed horror theme park in Plant City. The attraction, also known as the i4 Fear Park, contains multiple haunted houses (aka haunted trails), escape games, laser tag, food vendors, a gift shop, axe throwing, and a common area that features an ornate centerpiece with wandering scare actors. One of the best spooky season scare experiences in Central Florida is a horrifying journey into A Petrified Forest! This terrifying independent outdoor scare trail which is located in the Altamonte Springs area of Orlando is legendary around these parts, and this year's event is theamed to Nature's Fury, with each trail incorporating the theme.

Burn off steam on the playground, take a hayride or even a haunted monster truck ride. The Magical Maze has thirteen scary monster pictures hidden throughout…find them all and win a prize! The giant culvert slide, barrel train rides, trike track, duck races and so much more are available in the Jolly Acres play area. Jack’s Barnyard petting zoo is the place to visit with all of their farm animal friends, and experience some of the animals up close in the animal encounter areas. Join Lake Catherine Blueberries at the farm for their fall festivities. The farm, located at 5849 Lake Catherine Rd, Groveland will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Parking and admission to the farm is complimentary. Enjoy live music every weekend, delicious food and drink, cozy fire pits with s'mores packages, free photo opportunities with vintage tractors, children's playground, and more. The Community United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch at 4921 S US Highway 17/92. Casselberry has been a CUMC tradition for over 25 years. During the month of October, thousands of people pass through their patch. Not only is the pumpkin patch a fundraising effort, but it also serves as an outreach for the community. Granny Pumpkin talks and sings with children's groups visiting our campus, sharing with them the story of salvation, while the children sit among the bales of hay and pumpkins.

Hagerty Farms Pumpkin Patch (not a farm!), located at Oviedo High School, 3225 Lockwood Blvd. Oviedo, you'll discover pumpkins, gourds, more pumpkins and all pumpkins, just pumpkins of all kinds! This is a great spot for seasonal family pictures too.

Before women’s soccer captured the world’s attention, the 17 athletes of the first U.S. Women’s National Team helped lay the foundation for the global success the sport enjoys today. Through striking portraits by acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Randy Bacon, The 85’ers captures the authenticity, strength, and tenacity of these groundbreaking athletes. This pocket exhibit also highlights the team’s meaningful connections to Central Florida. While the team’s popularity has grown nationwide, the athletes’ numerous ties to the local community make their achievements even more special for fans in the Orlando area.

Florida played an active role in the Civil War as a Confederate state, becoming the third to secede from the Union in 1860. In addition to providing cattle and supplies, Florida was home to Lewis Powell, one of the conspirators in the assassination plot against President Abraham Lincoln. For over a century after his execution, Powell’s body remained separated from his skull, and the whereabouts of his skull were shrouded in mystery. Join Orange County Regional History Center collections registrar, Kara Kovalev, and collections manager, Emily Coughlan, as they delve into Florida’s connections to the Civil War and the mystery of Lewis Powell’s death.

Established in 2022, Sokołowski Trombone Project (STP) is a jazz trombone ensemble based out of Tampa Bay, Florida. The Bone Band is made up of 4 trombonists and 3 rhythm section players. The band’s goals consist of promoting innovative arrangements for the trombone of popular jazz standards, while also aiming to contribute original and modern music in various different styles.

This trio features NYC-based musicians Marcio Garcia (piano) and Myles Sloniker (bass)—two prominent young voices fluent in not only jazz, but folk music from around the world.
