Stay Safe - Orlando Fire Department reminds residents to always follow the Fireworks Do's and Don'ts!

Fireworks are known to cause thousands of injuries a year and the Orlando Fire Department wants residents to be safe during holiday celebrations!

The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional fireworks show, but if you have your own fireworks, you are asked to follow the Fireworks Do's and Don'ts.

Fireworks Safety Tips: If You Choose to Use Legal Fireworks

If consumer fireworks are legal to buy where you live and you choose to use them, be sure to follow the following safety tips:

  • MAKE SURE FIREWORKS ARE LEGAL IN YOUR AREA!

  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks

  • Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol

  • Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear

  • Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands

  • Never light fireworks indoors

  • Only use fireworks away from people, houses and flammable material

  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person

  • Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting

  • Never ignite devices in a container

  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks

  • Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding

  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire

  • Never use illegal fireworks

  • Please be courteous with fireworks. Fireworks can affect someone sensitive to loud sounds.

Pet Safety

Fireworks and loud noises can be distressing for pets.

  • Ensure your pets are kept indoors during fireworks displays

  • Create a calm and secure environment for them by providing a quiet, comfortable space

  • Consider using white noise or calming music to help mask the sound of fireworks
