Sprinkles, know for its freshly baked cupcakes has permanently closed its doors at every company-owned location throughout the country.
Sprinkles at Disney Springs has closed its doors on its Orlando location forever. The Walt Disney World location which opened in a blaze of publicity in 2016 has joined all company-owned Sprinkles Cupcakes locations across the county in closing permanently.
The viral bakery chain, Sprinkles Cupcakes announced on December 30, 2025 that all company-owned lcoations would permanently close at end of business on December 31, 2025, giving employess one-day layoff notices.
Sprinkles Cupcakes, known for its fresh cupcakes and its 24 hour "Cupcake ATMs" has struggled in recent years, with Candace Nelson, who founded the company confirmed the news via her social media accounts.
Cnadice who started the company in 2005 with a single location in Beverly Hills commented thatthis is how the Sprinkles story would end after selling the company to private equity group, KarpReilly Capital Partners in 2014.
"I thought Sprinkles would keep growing and be around forever," Nelson said. "I thought it was going to be my legacy." Calling the decision to close its stores, “surreal.”
Sprinkles which grew to multiple locations across the country with more than 20 stores throughout six states, together with 25 Cupcake ATMs across the country.
KarpReilly Capital Partners, who also own an ownership stake in Pitfire Pizza, and Salt & Straw, claim that they have made the difficult decision to close all of its company-owned bakeries nationwide, “after thoughtful consideration.”
The chain called it a “very difficult decision," to closer all its store- fronts, revealing that they would continue operates its mail-order business, with products available at select retailers across the country, including Whole Foods.
The long-term future of its Cupcake ATM's is unclear.
